well there aren't too many people on at this hour in the US. What car is it? model, company name. name of the receiver(thing antenna goes to) and controller? this will help diagnosis the problem.

If its one of those toy cars, your not gong to get much help here because most of the stuff is about hobby grade cars.

Well what brand is the car or better yet post a picture... no offense, but it sounds like a tyco or something along those lines because I remember similar issues with toy cars when I was little...

Yeap I'd say you should check connections first. Maybe the frequency crystals are damaged or the antena contacts are weak.

There are several things that can sause this, low batteries can somtimes cause this with some of the toy cars. A loose connection, maybe the previous owner got the Tx or the RX wet and it did some damage. Maybe the crystals were damaged by the previous owner, there's a lot of things that can cause this to happen. Start with the most basic stuff, and then move to the more advaced stuff if you know what you are doing or feel comfotable with doing so. But I have a feeling that maybe there is a losse connection or the RX got wet maybe by the previous owner running the car into a puddle after is just got dun raining or something of the sort.

Most of the toys use circuit boards to consolidate the electronics, which means you might have issues that can't be fixed.

Hobby-grade vehicles make use of individual parts that can be swapped, fixed, upgraded, etc. This also mean better trouble-shooting and repairing.

Also, lots of folks disregard posts from people who don't make an effort to punctuate, use proper grammar, etc.

You refer to a 'boot' sale in your post. Is that the rear of a car?
