Default Custom Glow Plug Igniter

I am so fed up with my weak rechargeable igniter that dies after 3 starts so i am thinking of building my own. What would you recommend for the safest and most efficient power input. My guess is 1.5 volts at 4000mah. Is that not too much? What is the max current a standard engine igniter can take?

Lord, there are tons of options. The most powerful, longest lasting would be a field battery and a power panel with jacks for a glow ignitor. Of course, that's a lot of crap to deal with. It would be far easier to just get a new, good quality rechargable ignitor or just replace the battery in the one you have. Although, if I were to make a guess, I'd guess that your problem is not so much your ignitor as the charger you're using. My 2/3 AA ignitor will last for days and I think I spent all of $17 for it.

i have a du-bro kwik start mini that i got for 10 clams. Ive started my truck 10 times already and havent had a problem. How long are you putting your plug on for? with my starterbox, its only on for 30 seconds, bu ti could see a pullstart engine slamming your batt harder due to longer on-time. The mini is really tiny, the batt would be a pain to replace, but i fits in my pocket with no problem.

I really like the field battery idea, but for now would 10 AA batteries work in parallel connection so 1.5V and something like 4ah are produced?

You COULD connect 10 AA's in parallel, but its alot easier to connect 2 sub C's in parallel (if you go mediocre quality thats at least 5ah)

I would just go buy another glow plug ignitor. It would be easier and faster to just buy a new one, I bought one when I started this hobby 7+years ago and I still have that one and it works great. It takes a single d sized battery and will last for a ton more then just 3 starts. I think this same battery is on 1 1/2 gallons so far and still has life to it. I think it only cost me like $10.

This is all you really need. 5200 mah of capacity. Verifies if plug is good. Relatively compact.

Remember, it is only the voltage you need to be warry of. If you go much over 1.5V you will pop the plug. You can connect to a 1,000,000 mah source with no issues (as long as it is 1.5V or less).
