When I break in a motor myself I heat cycle about 10 times for 2 minutes or till the engine gets to 200 degrees. Then I let it completely cool at BDC. After those 10 heat cycles I drive the truck around and blip it from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle for about 1 gallon. Sounds boring but is worth it in the end.
