Having ANOTHER issue with my week old Savage X.
I'm almost 8 tanks of fuel into the truck (first four were break in, so only four actual tanks since break in. I still haven't even gotten the thing leaned out yet!!).
I was running it this afternoon (about 73 degrees outside temp.), got through almost a tank of fuel, and it rolled to a stop, engine still running, but not engaging the tires. When I give it fuel, the engine revs and smokes (the carb is opening OK), but it wont move. I let it cool for about an hour, restarted it, and it ran fine for a minute or so, then back to the same ordeal. Engine revs, but no movement.
Called the guy at my LHS, and he said it sounded like the spur gear was eaten up. Checked the spur gear and it looks fine with no wear or apparent problems. What next??
This is my first Nitro RC of any kind, and I have no clue about how they work. I'm not overly mechanically inclined, and don't want to start tearing it apart without knowing what I should be looking for. May have gotten in over my head with this being my first one, but ya gotta start somewhere!!
Do these @#$% cars ever just run without having to do a bunch of work on them??!! Every day that I've had the thing it seems that I've had to do something new to it!!
All help appreciated!!

check & make sure pins r n the A-arms where the wheels connect 2 chassis, if pins r missing then u could loose dogbones 2 wheels & if spur gear is eaten/melted it wont move. check spur gear good. hope this helps. Yes there fun but do need work 2 keep runnig good. If your LHS is good they will help u without any problem.

LOL, after I got my X SS, I fired it up and had the exact opposite! The clutch shoes engaged and all 4 wheel would NOT stop spinning! Scare the sheet out of me. Well, sound like your problem is in the clutch area, not the spur. I think on the X RTRs, the clutchbell support is a plastic washer, so you should check it to make sure it's not shredded. Also, make sure your clutch is centered and can spin freely on the crankshaft. When I got mine, the bearings were toast and I had to replace them. Finally, look @ your clutch shoes to make sure they are still engaging the clutchbell.

Took it to my LHS for a check. Spur gear is fine and took the transmission out and it's fine also.
Sounding like it may be a clutch problem?????????? Let me know what you think.

Check the grub screws on the output yokes that exit the transmission, they might be loose, if they are put some blue lock tight on them. Also thighten your slipper if it is to loose the truck will not move. Try these things and you find the promblem sooner or later. You have to work on these things all the time, it will get easier once you learn some things. It is all about maintance. Go to savage -central.com and do a lot of reading. These things are not that hard once you learn the basic things you need to know. It takes time. If you dont have time or to lazy to work on your truck then you might wont to try another hobby, like rock collecting
I enjoy working on my savage, just as much as I like running it
