Im looking for some suggestions on what the best engine to buy for my savage x would be. I've been looking around and i've heard of a couple but im undecided between these: Axial .28, Axial .32, Sts D30M, and the lrp spec 3.

I'm in the same boat, axial 28 or sts30, which is more "user freindly" and easier to tune? I've heard great perfomance of both

The Axial will be easier to tune primarily because of its simple sleeve port configuration and its conservative port timings. The D30M and the LRP have more aggressive timings which can be a heartache for tuning if you do not know what you are doing.
For me, the D28M and D30M are easy to tune. I modded my D30M but kept the stock timing profile nd break-in was not a problem at all for me.
Some will say the D30M carburator has some problems due to cheaper quality control protocols, but if you are unfortunate to get a bum D30M/D28M carb, try contacting the seller for an exchange. Most sellers (Racernine and STS Microengines for example) have great service.

Usually when a motor is "usder friendly" per say and a little less harder to tune the motor won't put out as much power as the "not user freindly" version. Like the STS 30 may be a little bit picky to tune but everyone knows it puts out amazing power. That's why my vote is going towards the STS 30.

I have an axial 32 and an STS 30.
The axial is way more user friendly and alot easier for break-in, it is still a very impressive engine and you would be quite happy with it. Axial is all torque.
The STS 30....it's fast!, it has the torque and the high end.

Does the Sts 30 have that many problems from the factory that many have said?

Does anyone have any experience with the xtm 457? If not, i think ill just go with the axial .32 since it will only be my second engine.

I run the 457 in my x, its a powerhouse with both very good torque and top end.

if you want an easy to tune, reliable powerhouse, the XTM .457 Pro or LRP 28 Spec 3 is where it's at (same engines, essentially), end of story. if you're a bit more advanced and adventurous and don't mind a bit more tinkering, the STS 30 is the way to go...

I just finished breaking in and tuning my Spec 3, no problems, insane torque and power. I will have to adjust the shift point on the 3 speed to take advantage of the power curve. Easy to tune as well. It does come out of the box a bit too rich even for break in, I adjusted it 1/2 turn to the lean just to keep it running with the stock glow plug, even then it would not go over 180 degrees. Once broken in I ended up about 1 1/2 turns from factory and temps run very stable (about 230) with fantastic power. The price was easy on the wallet as well. I have heard nothing but good things about the other engines as well though. Good luck with your choice.

will be enought to have fun
