Default HOW DURABLE IS THE SAVAGE...REALLY

I am creating this post not to start a flame war of how good one brand is vs. another but solely just to get ideas, videos, or pics of how durable the Savage 21, 25, SS, X, Xss, and X 4.6 is in your capable hands. What have you broke and how? What have you done with yours. How fast, high, far, and bad did you jump? What did you jump? How hard do you bash, or what did you do to cause soo much damage? Just some examples. So if you have any imput you want heard or seen regarding this idea please share it. In another post a fellow R/Cer was asking this same question from me and I thought it would be good to hear from everyone else as well. Again, I want no comparisons as I don't want to start a flame war, just good clean imput. Thanks to all.

I flipped mine into a brick at wot and only bent the tvp a little . Broke a dogbone and bent a shock shaft after a hard day of jumping it 15+ feet in the air and bad landings. Other then that I havent broken a thing more then I can say for my little xxx-nt. I even outlasted 3 Revos at a 25 min race they broke down I crashed almost every lap and still kept going .

Hit a concrete slab (FLAT SIDE) of about 12cm (5 inches) high at wot. Car did the most amazing tumbling and turns for another 20+ meters after the impact and died. The impact was so hard and loud that my father-in-law, who was sitting almost 75m from where it happened, thought it was a gun shot. Damage: Tire came of left front rim (some tire glue fixed this) and engine moved (took screws out, re-aligned the motor and tightened the screws again with some loctite)

on my worst crash i bent both chassis plates, my motor mount, broke an upper suspension arm, and spur gear, poped the cap off a shock, and bent my cooling head. hopefully thats it.

That was from a vert at a skate park. got about 10 feet of air or so and landed on its lid on concrete. I had previously done that jump about 10-15 times and didnt break anything. I also jumped 6ft halfpipe a few times and didnt break anything.

Im pretty impressed with it. I obviously ran it pretty hard and when it finnaly really broke it was because I did something stupid.

Mine got run over 3 months after I got it. Damage: Cracked bulkheads, 2 broken shock shafts. TVP's bent a little (still using them hammered back of course), bumper mount cracked, broken upright, and broken tie rod housing, rim cracked and a few broken screws (keep in mind he ran directly over the rear of the truck). Thats pretty impressive for being hit at 60-65mph[8D] Other incident: My truck took off WOT went about 120 feet and hit a piece of plywood at an angle. Damage: Broken upright and broken shock shaft. I usually dont bash my trucks, just drive em fast. But when I do go bashing, I go hard on them. I took my Savage after it was refurbished from the run over to a sand pit in an abandoned air field. (Floyd Bennet Field NY) I did about 20 foot jumps at WOT and I did about 15-20 times landing everywhere. On the rollbar, engine, bumpers. Damage: Cracked fuel tank. I think the tank was already damaged a bit after the run over though[:-] Those are my experiences. IMO a series of unfortunate events Tom.

I wish they would have built the e-savage as good as the nitro version. Not that my e-savage is bad(its still the best electric mt) but its just not as good. Hpi put some really cheap parts on it were the really shouldnt of. I guess I will have to convert the nitro version over to electric to get a bullet proof e-savy.

I guess I need to add my bad experience to these other pretty good ones!

My Savage is less than 2 weeks old, and I can't even get the @#$%! thing broken in without some kind of problem!

I was running it the other day (forth tank of fuel after factory recommended break in), and running it easy on a flat lawn, and it just stopped. Engine would rev, front wheels would turn (left to right), shafts would spin, but it wont move. I've checked the spur gear, all tranny gears, took it to the guy at my LHS for a diagnosis, and called HPI and no one can tell me why it wont work.

I'm not too awfully impressed with mine so far! I could understand this happening if I'd been bashing the heck out of it. But I've only been running it half throttle on soft level ground and experienced problems that would seem to have evolved from destructive use!

There could be a variety of simple problems and if your LHS guy couldnt figure it out then thats sad. I dont feel like listing the possibilities though[&:]

try taking your truck apart and looking for a problem. call HPI support yourself while you tear it down.

These problems aren't ones you'd encounter during hard bashing, they're problems associated with being new to nitro and not knowing exactly what you're doing.

Keep at it...most important thing is DON'T GET FRUSTRATED. and if you DO get TOO frustrated...i'll send you a $100 check, you can send me your truck

I bash quite hard, and the only thing that I broke was an upper suspension arm (actually, my friend did that) after numerous crashes on the front wheel.

Hit a tree at WOT. Only the left tire hit. Thought it was done when I saw it.

Only had to replace an A-arm and two other small plastic parts inside the sup of the wheel. Only cost $20 to fix.

Any truck is going to break at some point or another. I beat the living crap out of my Savage and pretty much only break things when I do something really, really dumb. But you wanna know something? I would not give up my Savvy for any other make of MT. For some reason, my town is full of Traxxas junkies. You would have thought that after they break and have to watch me drive for a few more hours, they would have learned.

hell mine is as strong as anything, i had not put a fail safe on ine when i 1st had it, it flew across our farm and into a massive iron post that holds the barn up, all it did was blow a cap of the shocks and popped the little bumper clips that go onto the front bulk, it was nothing, although it did shake the s%&t out of the barn..haha

put it this was, out sheep were not happy!!...

It's durable enough that mine has lasted 4 years of hell. None of the major parts other than the engine and trans have been changed-the main truck (Savage 25 RTR) is still comprised of the main parts HPI shipped it out with. You could say it's vintage.[8D]

Well, I must say, my 25 was put through the paces of the 10-20' jumps and landings, I was addicted to flying RC MT's. I never broke a thing on that truck except the roll bar/ grab handle after repeated smashings and me bending it back out. Other than that it never had one other problem. My X on the other hand, had the old scrappy TVP's and it took a good beating until a bad one wheel landing at about 10' drop. Bent at the small x in the back like most have before mine. Now I have upgraded to FLM parts including the Ext. LCG chassis and had it today getting more air. No problem yet, they seem to be bullet proof, I really truly can not complain. Check my gallery pics (sorry no pics of my MAXX's, I didn't have a Digital camera then) when I say this, I have owned most every popular truck out there, I owned the Savage21, T&E-Maxx, MGT, Sav25, LST, REVo, LST2, Nemesis, and I have since sold them all and I went back to a Savage X alone. That's all that I need to say about that, 19 years of R/C and this has to be the best one yet, durable, quick, and did I say DURABLE!? I can't get enough of it.[8D]

I bash it fairly hard... but not crazy hard. I have a kicker ramp that I do back flips off... lots of fun! I've run one of the front wheels off trees lots... no broken parts.

Here is my broken parts list... and I've had my Savage X RTR since Sept 06...

- Rear bumper x 1 - bad landing on the back end
- Spur Gear x 2 (have the steel one now)
- Front pinion x 2
- Front pinion bearing x 1
- Rear pinion x 1
- Rear pinion bearing x 1
- Either front or rear diff x 6+ (have 2 full sets of diffs, Nova RC's and X-SS)
- Ripped the antenna off while sliding upside down on concrete stairs
- Bent 1 shock while barrel rolling down same concrete stairs as above
- almost totally wrecked the original body... but it still works

Can't think of much more. Bascially you can see the weak spot... the diffs... and pinions also a bit. They really are tough trucks.
