Thinking about getting one of these two... kind of leaning towards the RTR, but I'll sacrifice my time for the SS kit if its that much better. what do you guys think? would the kit be that much better?

go for the kit. it has the hardened diff gears, better drive cups/dogbones, and better brakes. not to mention the better engine. you'll have to spend a bit more up front for the radio gear, but you're better off in the long run

No there isn't a new kit. This is the one you should get. I bought one and besides the one way slipping there in no complain about the truck.

I think the prices are way too close for them to be the same... kit=in pieces, no electronics rtr=well, rtr... whats a good radio and servos to pair with this thing? I had the 3pm with my last pile of junk (warhead) and I hated it. any others?

Really... I'm not really good at adjusting with the digital setup... I don't know the abbreviations or all the settings... the instructions gave me no help. its probably just me...

Well I went ahead and bought the KIT. I got the tower combo which comes with the 3pm radio... and hopefully I'll understand it better. Is there anything that I should upgrade before putting the truck together? What fuel would be best? thanks for the info...

only thing thats ever a problem is the steering servo. I like the HiTec because its a good value for the buck...............HS-5645MG is a power house.............I have 6 out this year without a problem

put a good clutch in it. either Mugen or STS or Nova clutch shoes are the way to go. STS's clutch shoes come with 2 sets of springs...which is kind of a good thing because they seem to like to break more often than normal:P
I say go with the STS clutch shoes and the Mugen 1.0 springs and tear shizz up
Also..while I'd say the 5645 is decent, and good enough for most truggies...i wouldn't call it a powerhouse. it'll be more than fine for the Savage but if you want something with more OOMPH get a 5955

would it be worth it to upgrade to a titanium spur?

Stick to plastic, set your mesh right and you will be fine. I used to tighten all of my motor screws b4 each tank to make sure my mesh wouldnt go wrongand strip it. I had that same 5 dollar spur for 6 gallons, then I sold the truck.

I Loctite my engine allens and after they are as tight as I can get them by hand, I clamp some pliers onto the allens and give them a quarter turn more. I've never had screw come loose with that method.[8D]

i tightened them down so much that when i took my truck apart for cleaning, i noticed that the engine plate holes were recessed quite a bit by the screws... had to get a new one, but all is now good[8D]

well the SS X kit comes with a steel spur gear... so hopefully that won't strip out...

Just set your mesh right, and tighten the screws down once in a while. Locktight works well also
