Whats the top speed you can get out of the axial 28 in the savage x with the 3 speed? My lhs owner states that it will run 60+mph(on 30%fuel) but he wont bring his out to play. Are they really that fast?
I want to race him with my e-savage that I have streached and widen to 1/8 scale(brushless and 4s lipo). I had it clocked at 52mph. He told me that 52 was slow. I also have a elst2 that runs 55mph and he wont race either one b/c he said that it would be a waste of his time b/c he is faster.(but he wont prove it) So I was wondering if by chance he is that much faster than me. Any help would be appreciated!

60 is way high, like as in not a chance in hell high. 50s are even a bit optimistic, but with the right gearing, going downhill with a tailwind................still doubtful. To answer your question though, in the 40s is where you'll be with a Axial .28/3spd combo-mid to high 40s is where most nitro Savages hit the wall due to weight and a lack of aerodynamics. There are some Savages that are exceptions to common convention that can seriously haul ass, but not many will fall into that category.[8D]

You should ask the hobby shop guy where he buys his weed it sounds like good stuff lol. Seriosly 50 is pushing it with a super light savage with a novarossi engine in it I would like to see 60, maybe he attaches rockets to it lol.

Thats what I thought. I also just built a brushless turmoil (7xl motor and 5s battey). It is running around 80mph. I should have it radared this week. He told my his 777 buggy that would kill it. I just dont see how. He wont race me with that either now. He raced it against my elst2 a while back and won (but not by much)(I beat him on take off power, he had more top end) and he told me he just needed to tune it better. I think he must be on crack or something. His savage has a ton of aluminum on it so its not even light. I guess that doesnt mean a whole lot b/c my elst is 14.5 pounds.

I forgot to add that he says he has a 65mph t-maxx too. I just want him to put his money where his mouth is and race me. All my speeds except the new buggy are radar proven. I guess when I radar my buggy I should go to his shop and get him to get his done. Just to show him that he isnt that fast.

oh yeah, because his statements are stupid[&:] his truck isn't all that fast. even with a 19/47 setup, he'd be in the mid 40s or so, yes?

I've got an Axial 28 geared 18/47 with a 3-speed. The top-speed is very respectable I must say. Every time I take my LST2 out I seem to get more and more impressed at how fast it is, and then think my Savy isn't as fast. Then I take the Savy out the next time and it makes me reconsider. It really does rip... Gallon and a half and I still HAVE to loosen the glowplug before every start... I think, speed-wise, the Sav is at a disadvantage though cuz of tire size. Running the Axial Terraizer tires - which I like BTW - BUT, the diameter of the tire is a good inch and a half smaller than the LST2 tires...
As far as mph I have no idea, but too much faster than what it is now and things would get ridiculous.. It's a Savage after all, and not an road-car... I think, as with horsepower, it's best to be skeptical about most mph claims, so I don't know, if a stock Savage 25 geared 15/49 really only does 31mph, my X SS is probably somewhere NEAR 40, but I just don't know exactly... Or care a whole lot.. It IS pretty fast for a Savage though.. I did run against a stock Sav 25 recently geared 18/49 - and tuned well.., and I was significantly faster - as in blowing by him... Aside from a good top speed BTW, I can also wheelie down the street at will. I'm very happy with it - not only the speed, but the ease of starting, running, etc... A VERY user-friendly engine - which counts a lot IMO... I seem to be running into more and more people BTW with other engines that won't keep a tune or have some other problem, and after seeing mine they say screw it they're just gonna' get an Axial...(CEN Genesis, Nova XRP-Sav, LRP Spec 3..) Maybe I just got one from a lucky batch or whatever, I don't know, but Axial has done right by me and I'd buy another based on this one..
And I probably will buy another Axial 28 when the times comes - but the RR.....(mmmmuuuuuhhhhhaaahhhhhahhahahh.....)
Here's a short vid of mine running with a Nova-powered Sav.. ZERO doubt about it, when he could find the traction his truck would blow the doors off my truck - and most others(you can hear me laugh at the beginning, cuz seeing that thing take off from 2nd gear is just ridiculous... Video doesn't do it justice..) This is before the 3-speed BTW...:

Poor guy BTW landed bad on the engine head, cracked his engine case, and is now selling off the internals to get an Axial...(a new Nova case costs the same as an Axial 32...)
Here's another short vid - before the 2-speed. Not a great vid to give an idea of top-speed, BUT it was running rich that day - was still towards the end of break-in.. Max temps were like 215-220...

Pat- You're still pulling wheelies with a 18t CB? Damn. I guess I'm going to have to go with a 19t CB then to cut down on the wheelies....even in the dirt this thing cannot keep the front wheels down.[8D]

I think I'm even riding wheelies at will in 2nd gear, cuz I'm missing first... Not sure though, seems like this 3-speed has thrown my tune off a tad I think.. Anyway, it's been wheelying at will since tank 1 - not uncontrollably, but on the contrary - very controllably.. My slipper is 3/4 out.. If you really want wheelies tighten the slipper...

As for the wheelies, well, you should be pulling them like mad. Check your slipper nut first-mine's as tight as physically possible. Then check to make sure your carb is opening up all the way and that it is tuned right-if it's slow on takeoff, you are probably still a little rich on the LSN side. Other than those easy to remedy things, I can't think of a reason why you can't wheelie all the time.[8D]
