i usually take the battery off, then put the cover back on, and spray it with a garden hose.
REMEMBER: do not turn ON the electronic devices when the car still wet. you will fry your servo.
after all the cleaning, spray the whole thing with WD-40 as it will take the moisture out
then put in in the sun for a couple of hours, out after run engine oil to absorb moisture inside the engine
then leave it for one day.
you are good to go

cant u just plug the opening into the engine so u dont have to do all that extra stuff??

but i think you still want to do that extra stuff since it will take you like 15 second and just in case the water gets inside the engine eventhough you already covered everything up.
just worry about your servo, i think that's the most important thing when using water to clean up.

I take it apart to an extent and use a biodegradable degreaser, a toothbrush, and a can of compressed air. This is the easiest way for me without a compressor and better than spraying Nitro cleaner everywhere and releasing those harmful chemicals into the environment.. The degreaser works well on the oil you just talked about..

I stopped cleaning mine. All I do is spray the engine block and head down with nitro cleaner and wipe the body down with a wet rag....the rest stays all dirty.[8D]

Put the reciever, and battery pack in a balloon, then seal the end some how ..tape ...zip tie...string..whatever,and smear some marine grease around the seal of the servos, and in the horn area.
The marine grease is 100% waterproof..such as wheel bearing grease for boat trailers.
Just dont spray the air cleaner area.

I take the motor, pipe, radio tray, and wheels off. then make a mixture of simple green and oter soap and stick it in the bath tup. Spray a heavy coat of simlpe green, let sit for 5 to 10 minutes, then scrup the dirt off with a touth brush. Then rinse with water, blow off exese water with compressed air then lube the berings with WD-40. Looks new every time.

edit-I do clean the air filter after each run though. I'm not THAT cruel.

I use the air compressor at the local gas station. You need to find one that puts out a LOT of air, and preferably the kind that you
can activate with a handle. I pay 50 cents for 4 minutes of air, and that's usually plenty when combined with a small and large
paint brush.
