Well, hold the clutchbell down and move the spur slightly. There should be a small amount of play between the meshing teeth.

Use the paper strip trick. Take some paper and cut a strip that is the width of the spur hear and with the CB and spur in place at a guestimated mesh, turn the spur and feed the paper in. Then, pinch the engine mount closer to the left of the savage such that the CB gear presses the paper all the way against the spur gear with only the paper in between the teeth. This is the proper mesh. Lock doen the engine mount and take out the paper strip. Turn the spur by hand; this is how the gear mesh should feel on a brand-new spur and CB. (A used spur and CB will feel differently from the tooth wear).

Hi SAVAGEJIM

I also use the paper mesh trick. However I usually fold two sheets of paper then I insert it Between the Spur and CB. Is this safe or should I just use single paper?

Thanks

HPI instructions say two sheets. Thunder Tiger instructions were one sheet and either way has worked fine for me. Just make damn sure that the motor is parallel (looking from the top and from the side) with the spur shaft. If not, it won't matter what your gear mesh is.

How did you get your engine to mount on the other side?
