Coolum Jets is on again this weekend July 7&8 at Suncoast Model Flyers field at Coolum on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
For all of you that dont know about us, it is quickly getting the reputation as 1 of the biggest jet events in the country. Pre-booked entries this year are already up with pilots from every part of Australia & even a couple of turbine heli's coming over from New Zealand.
Spectator numbers for last year were around 8000 for the weekend & we are hoping for that again. Anyway here a few pix of last year's event, I will try to post some more from Friday as the guys role in.
If you are looking for us we on Quanda Rd Coolum, off the Yandina-Coolum road.
Thanks,
Tony.

Hi Andy,
No its not a golf course, we cut it twice a week during summer & every Friday through winter.
The strip is also grass but is better still, much more like a putting green than normal grass.
Thanks for the compilment,
Tony.

Hi Tony
I'm glad to see you picked a photo of my T33 for the promtion of your event - also glad the one in the box was not mine. See you again this weekend - this time with a few others, including my F104.
I hope the field has had time to dry out after the recent good rains we've all had.
Cheers

I'll have to chalk that one down for next year. I grew up in Qld and used to spend time up that way on holidays as a kid.
Nice looking field. Following the drought, my home club strip is looking a little sad and sorry.

Hi Springbok Flyer,
I really liked your T33, it's nice to see a different colour scheme, to the standard Thunderbirds & the like. Am looking foward to the F104, thats another favourite of mine.
Yep the field is drying out nicely, hasn't rained in almost a week now & is firming up. The runway is quite hard, I flew my pattern ship on Sunday & it was no problems at all. We have been pretty lucky with rain the last few months & the grass is really green. A lot more so than last years photos show.
More work has been done around the place, with more car parking area outside the feild, thanks to the bike club getting national titles held there. The strip has been cut as low as we can get it, & will be cut again Thursday morning. Chris Venter's big Mibo A10 has been flying here for the last few weeks & is handling the grass really well.
Hope to catch up over the weekend,
Tony.

Hi Garrett
I guess with the lack of rain a lot of fields are looking very second hand. You dont have to go too far away from here to see how dry it is. Have you had the deluge that Goulburn & Marulan had last week? Can't beleive they had no water for a couple of years, now they have way too much......
Anyway hope to see you here next year,
Tony.

Hi Tony,
Yeah, we got some reasonable rain, but not as much as Goulburn. Another new club that a small group of us is forming flies from a dry lake...or at least it was dry. Never mind, it should dry out in a couple of weeks. Great site ordinarily as it is dead flat and clear for kms in every direction.

Hi Blackcat,
Yep that's fine
Looking foward to seeing the F18 going around again. Would have to be the best display flights I have ever seen.
Tony.

Hi guys,
Well the field is ready to go. We had the media here today shooting for tonights news. It went on 7, & 9 local, & 10 Brisbane.
The heavy winds that are around SE Queensland are missing us, its blowy but nothing like Brisbane had today. The forecast is for 10-15 all weekend & fine
3 turbine flights today, the big A10, Eurosport, & a Boomerang
More pix tomorrow,
Tony.

Ok guys its Friday, & the jets have rolled in all day. A few of our fluffy friends turned up to see what all the fuss is about too
Lots of good flying all day, the Hughes 500 has made the long trip across the Tasman from New Zealand specially for this weekend. unfortunately a couple of guys went in but all in all a good sort out day. Looking foward to the rest of the guys & the crowds tomorrow.
Here's a few pix of the action today :-

And again the Suncoast boys came up with an absolutely fabulous event. Perfect weather, perfect grass top as far as the eye could see and the best hospitality in the Southern hemispere.
Well done once again, see you definately again in 2008.
Cheers

Hi Springbok Flyer,
Thanks for the kind remarks.
I havent got too many photos from the weekend as the crowds were huge again this year the club guys were really busy. Unfortunately there were a few crashes, but on the whole a very little carnaige for the number of flights put in by the guys.
I would just like to thank all the guys that made the effort to come up to our field again this year, & we are looking foward to seeing you guys again for the next 1.
Thanks again guys,
Tony.
