Default Bob Fiorenze T-38 anyone flow one on turbine power

I have always wanted one and I am thinking about getting one. The kit looks nice but has no carbon renforcement not sure about the wings. Anyone flown one care to share how it flies, kit quality, ect ect. I got a Atres Falcon that I could use for it.

Thanks for the info

David

Im in the process of getting one. I think it will be fine with 14-18# motor. As for now I plan on a PST 800.

Do a search here on RCU. Paul Hopkins flew one a few years back on a RAM1000. If you have any of the videos from FLJets I think it is on the video from 2001 or so. It flew nicely and looked very fast.

Don Yockey flew one on AMT 180. I think your falcon is fine. You need to put reinforcing rod or spar on the top of the hatch opening as the fuse is a little flensy there.

Good lcuk.

Has there ever been a major problem with the strength of the fusalage ? Bob does have a carbon rod recommended between the front and rear of the main hatch ?

I traded for one which should be here next week. Full kit with all options. Thinking about Wren SS, PST 800 or PST 600R depending on final weight. Keep us posted on flights and good luck!

Bob sells stainless afterburner cans that fit pretty good , infront of that i used "flightmetal"
Check Bobs site for the extra's available
Will Post a complete run down on the kit , building , extra's ect very soon as well as a flight report

Just wondering how it would fly with a Gold 44 as you couls keep the model really light with that "little" wing.

Anyone looking for the stainless exhaust "cans" (nozzles) - I have one for this kit and would love to see it get used - PM or Email me if interested.

This seems a great jet, beautiful design.

Is there any one with more opinions about is behavior in the air and also some images of it would be great since this is not a usual plane in jet events (I cannot figure why)

I´m also thinking on ordering one in few days.

Hi Guys , Been overseas for about a week and haven't had time to jump on and let you know about the test flights , i have plenty of pictures and can give you a pretty good run down on the Kit , build and some flight characteristics .
My apologies for not being able to post much tonight but i can barely see the keys .
Will try to jump on tomorrow and give a full account ...
If your about to order one PM me and i'll try to give a quick run down before work

The big day arrived , Quite a few jet pilots and turbine inspectors out for a day of kero burning ...
Takeoff was nice and took a few minutes to trim her up and settle in , and it really was quite comfortable to fly , needed a little more aileron throw and maybe a little more elevator throw but nice .... tested the flaps in flight (no surprises) did a few axial rolls across the field and settled down for a gear down check and landing circuit flaps down on final and she slowed up beautiful and came in a treat :-) all smiles and cheers .
Checked her out between flights and topped off the tanks ..... adjusted the trim and off it went again much nicer now and sweet through the air ,looking great ..... about 4 minutes into the second flight , lined up for for a fly by at which point right in the center of the field at about 50-60 ft it began to flex back and forth through the center of the fuse and then literally snapped in half .... leaving us all stunned and amazed ..... Yep , you can imagine the shock and disappointment.
It seemed apparent that the carbon rod had held firm across the top of the hatch area but the lower area of the fusalage had flexed leading to the end of nearly 2 years work .
Will try to make a small Video of the first flight and post it on utube

How sad........Apparently there needs to be some carbon or Kevlar reinforcement in the center section. I've always liked this plane and have seen several examples fly on DF power over the past years with no issues....Appeared to be a great flyer....Again, sorry for your loss.

Have spoken to to someone in Florida who has built 7 of these kits and after the first one did exactly the same thing he strengthened the fuselage area and the next 6 are still flying today , the strengthening was discussed with Bob and pattens for the carbon to be added offered ..... Just wish i had known this a little sooner
