I finally visited the new farview field in hamburg, Pa and what a field. The runway is 1800 feet long and 400 feet wide and there is no trees or houses to worry about. If any body is thinking about going to their jet rally coming up you will not be dissapointed as this is easily the nicest field in northeast, PA. There's a nice pavillion with a full kitchen, tables etc. Here's a link to their club.

I have been to that field many times in the years past, great field. that is also the same field where I saw my first turbine fly. It was a propane turbine many, many years ago, pilot was Dave Malcione. hope I spelled Dave's last name correct.
we will be there this year for their upcoming jet rally on Friday.
Albert we were in your area flying the jets this past Sunday, we flew even with the very high winds

The Farview R/C Flyers would like to extend a fantastic opportunity for you to join with us in flying radio controlled model jet aircraft at the Grim Airpark in beautiful Hamburg Pennsylvania, (Perry Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania). Located just minutes off of Route 78, 61 and 222, our new club has been able to secure an old favorite RC flying site that the Tri-County Wingsnappers club used from 1971 to 1996. We will be having an AMA sanctioned Jet Rally on October 19th, 20th and 21st from 9:00 am til dark. Food and beverage will be available all three days.
Our flying field is located at 375 Farview Road, Hamburg Pa 19526 and has the following Radio Control user friendly amenities such as, an impact rolled 400' by 1800' grass runway, covered pavilion, aircraft hangar, kitchen facility, long secluded private drive and an abundance of parking as well as several thousand feet of flyover zones. This privately owned property is a state registered airfield and is one of the nicest flying sites in the northeast! All turbine powered and ducted fan aircraft operating any frequency are welcome to fly at this three day event. Landing fee is $15 for three days of flying. On site camping is available (no hookups) for $15 and the field is located close to many local hotels. Kingcats and Bobcats with angularly mounted turbines are welcome on this grass field!!
If you have any questions about the event, please visit our website at www.farviewflyers.net or contact CD Rick Boyer at <[email protected]> 610-944-9150 , CD Erik Rudjord at <[email protected]> , Kerry Sterner at <[email protected]>, Dave Renninger at <[email protected]> or Lee Buskirk at <[email protected]>. The event is also listed on BV's website.
Very sincerely yours,
Rick Boyer CD
Secretary, Farview R/C Flyers

Hi Mark,
Here is a link to one of the closest Hotels (it's a brand new Microtel Hotel next to Cabela's off Route 78 and 61) that some of the guys are staying at for the event.

There are several others in the Reading and Allentown area.

Hi Joe,
I got you covered on the registration my good friend.
BTW, the 1/4 scale Vampire is expected to be ready to fly the weekend of 13 Oct. radio install is complete and need to finalize the Fuel and Air systems.
Will let you know the middle of next week how that schedule is holding up in hopes that you may be available to take your world renowned pic's of the event.
Mark, I will give you a call middle of next week if the 13th test flight schedule holds up in hopes that Mt. Pocono is still available.
Take care fellas.

So nobody has any recommendations of where to stay? Organizers? I guess Reading is the closest, especially for those of us coming North to the event, is that right? Anybody going that isn't staying in the Microtel care to share where they are staying?

I found a Days Inn in Reading that has rooms, but they are $100/night. That, and a 6 hour drive, is beginning to make the enthusiasm wain... I've spent quite a bit of time looking so far and haven't found anything that is reasonably priced and has a reasonable chance of not being a dive...
All suggestions are welcome, but right now, its not looking good...

A hotel suggestion....you may want to try the Lantern Lodge in Myerstown. The travel time to Hamburg is apx. 25-30 minutes via SR501 north to I-78. Many of you have stayed at the LL for the LBJR and are familiar with it. The phone number is 717.866.6536. My contact in the past has been Nancy. I don't know what the rates are but I would imagine that they are less than the Reading/Allentown area plus we are now out of the tourist season.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It looks like the Richmond gang is going to take a pass on this one this year. Its a fairly long drive, Louie is in school, so he can't make it unless I only come up for Saturday, and the hotel situation is too much of a pain. Its just too many $'s and too much hassel for too little flying. Maybe we'll make it next year....
Good luck with the event and have fun!

Hey Uncle Joe! The Mime found a place for Capn' Walt and I in Kutztown called The Campus Inn. 610-683-8721 It is approx. 12mi away and the AAA rate is about $70. You and others may want to check it out. OTT......I agree with Mike L. that the Lantern Lodge is a nice spot too. Hope to see ya there!!

Hey Guys,
We have onsite overnight camping (no hook ups) at the event. Beautiful place to fly and camp. I'll try to post some more hotels. You can also access our website for a hotel listing. I think Lee posted this on our website. www.farviewflyers.net We also have an onsite full scale hangar for storing models overnight with electricity for overnight charging.
There is also a Ramada Inn near Reading, close to the field http://www.ramadareading.com/

About 12 miles to the East of the Hamburg exit of Route 78 is an intersection called Fogelsville
There are the following hotels at that junction:
Holiday Inn
Hampton Inn
Quality Inn
Comfort Inn
All will be in the 80-100 range and the Holiday Inn will be more
It's a 25 minute drive from that intersection to the field
There are lower cost hotels furter to the east but that extends the trip to the firld to 40-45 minutes.
Additionally, to the west is an area called Sharletsville where there are some lower cost motels but also with fewer amendities.
If anyone would like to e-mail me their specific requirements, I will try to locate something for you in the range you want to spend.
