I don't have the gyro stuff, but I also use headset video. my gear is not virtual reality, it is called a HUD (head up display).
It works fine, so I can enjoy both views from the cockpit and the ground. I have a modified cockpit with the video camera for the Savex L39.
Total onboard weight is around 200g.

There are a couple of guys at our field doing this.
The locals are using an e-Ugly Stick for a platform now but are looking for something with a little more performance.
It is awesome.
I am not sure how to safely set it up in a jet since the system needs the trainer port on your radio so you can not buddy box.
You really want a set of eyeballs handy while flying under the hood.

Jesus,
That video was amazing. The guy was willing to loose the plane just to get the video. I wonder if he had someone down on the ground in case he lost the plane in order to retrieve the video, unless of course he was recording it in the hotel room. I loved the part were he dives down the side of the circular building.

Man, there is NO WAY I'm taking my eyes off my jets when flying. I think that would be dangerous. I guess that you could let someone else look through it though and record it. So in that case its pretty cool.

Very cool
But for at least our USA members you might want to think about what you are posting regarding this subject. I’m no expert at this but from what I have read this is the kind of activity that will get us Regulated, quicker than you can blink an eye.
Silly yes, but it is the current state that we live in right or wrong that's the way it is. Can you imagine if some bored news staffer got a great idea from this story?
Again very cool stuff, I think the video and the flying is off the hook! I’m just saying that you might not want to post this sort of thing on you tube, for the sake of modelers in the USA and other countries, don't give our governments a reason to regulate us please.
