Default My new MKIII WRen MW54 - vs my older MKII kit engine

Back in 2002, I started into turbines with my Wren MW54 MKII kit, that was the 1st version that you didnt have to drill and tap, but you did have to balance and debug a few things. I managed to get the engine put together and it ran excellently.

At that time autostart was not an option, and for the 4 years I had that engine I did the manual start (I did have the cowl & starter motor on it) and I thought it was awesome, as I never once had the engine flame out or had any trouble starting it once I got the hang of it. I later upgraded the engine to MKIII status but kept the manual start ecu.

This week, I got my new MK III autostart kit - Wednesday I put it together and last night I installed it into my AV8R and test ran it.

I have to say, the newest version of the "kit" engine is absolutely amazing! It went together very well and the newest generation of parts are machined to perfection. Not having to balance it makes it very easy - almost too easy if thats possible!

The other thing, I went with the full auto start package. I did three starts, all went perfect and I ran the engine for 23 minutes to let it settle in before test flights this weekend. The throttle response is improved and its rock solid stable at all rpm's.

ANyhow, Having had one of the 1st generation WRen's and now 5 years later having the latest version, I can say theu certainly have improved upon an already excellent engine and I can't see anyone not being happy with one of the latest WRen kits...

Thanks to WRen for the engine and Peter at Altecare for selling it to me !

AJC

I know what you mean, a great engine. I also have two Wren's and love them. George

Do you think it's a good idea to get a used one with 15 hours, markII, but with the latiest accesseries, new bearings, latiest ecu, full auto start etc.? Debating on this or a used p-60?
