One time the case of turbine oil was delivered to my house. UPS left it on my door step where it sat in a pool of oil for half a day. The box seriously looked like someone attacked it with a bat. Out of 24 cans, 6 were punctered and all but two where dented in one way or another.

I picked up my Boomerang XL box from the shipper instead of having them deliver. Found out it was shipped from Texas via Team Air Express that put it on Southwest Airlines cargo, then transfered to Action Courier about 12 miles from my house for delivery. It looked like they used a 2 ton fork lift to move my 10 lb box, in other words they "forked" it. Put a hole in it, through and through. I was fortunate as the booms were packed just far enough apart that the fork passed in between with no damage.

Do I win the prize for the worst box received?
How about a survey on the worst delivery record.
I ordered parts from FL, they were shipped UPS ground, everything was going well on the tracking for the first two days, the scheduled delivery day was posted then the package fell into a black hole, the tracking site said my package had an exception, I filed a clam with UPS and two weeks later my box was delivered, it looked like an accordion.
It went from FL to New Stanton PA (Sorting Facility) then it should have come directly to Erie PA, but no UPS has a better idea... sent it to Hodgkins IL, then send it back to New Stanton Pa and then to Erie, I surprized they didn't try to add on extra shipping fees or fuel surcharges
p.s. this was the second package from FL involving UPS with a delayed delivery, the common denominator being the New Stanton PA UPS sorting facility.

Ultimate Parcel Smashers has never delivered a clean box with zero damage to me.
The worst was a new custom built hunting rifle that had about a 45° bend in the barrel.
Great for getting those deer that like to hide behind trees.
The crooks tried to deny the claim as insufficient packaging, even though the rifle was in a hard case that was then in a 200# cardboard box.
Yes they folded it all.

Jet Legend F-15 and 747 Crushed to death. He put it on it's gear, foam insulation boards and then house insulation on top of that to protect it. They stacked a pallet on top of it and the gear came out the bottom of the box, Vertical fins broken off and most formers inside crushed. The elevators have Di-hedral since mounts where bent up and the gear and main formers ripped out the bottom, the under wing tanks protect it a little but most damage was at the bottom

funflyerf4 , Turbulence : What did you guys do? Turn it in. I know that that really is a slow process, and in this Hobby, some of it simply Cannot be replaced.

Shipping company is screwing me royaly. Paying only 9.50 per pound of the shipment so I will get $1300 off of them. Turbine will need some repairs (small dent on the back when they crushed the former into it from the bottom) Most servos are good except the rudders, gear seem to be O.K. but have to test the struts. Airframe is beyond repair. Well if you wanted to spend more time then building from a kit, tear out the rest of the elevator formers, get two new vertical and Horizontal stabs at about $200, Buy new formers and new bushings to hold the elevators fix the cracks on the frame.
Bought from a friend so I am still in the What is right or where is half way stage, but still have gotten no where. Claim with the shipping company was made two and a half months ago. Unlike most unreasonable people I assumed some risk, but if we can't see eye to eye and meet somewhere where we are BOTH not royally screwed, then it's pack up the left over’s, send them all back and request a full refund.
Some-one once started the saying SH_T HAPPENS and I bet it was not an old Chinese proverb.

"Sh*t" can happen, but when you are dealing with people who are knowledge on how these jets should be shipped to avoid damage, it rarely does. The attached photos are the crate that Micheal Stern sent me before sending me my BVM F-86. Nothing was left to chance. The crate was WOOD not Cardboard and everthing arrived in perfect condition.

What was the shipping cost on that coffin? Was it delivered by skycrane? Wow! Now I remember why I hated that "boomerang" one piece sabre wing.

What amazes me more than the shipping company using your jet box as a step stool, is the people who pack a jet in a box with some foam and peanuts and expect it to get there in one piece. That F-15 should have never been shipped with the elevators and vertical stabs attached unless it was put into a reinforced wooden crate. That job on the Boomer in the Dell box is beyond words.

We used to ship Finished JMP Starfires in Exellent wooden creight's. and have the creight's returned.
In some cases you could see where they stuch fork truck forks threw the side of the wood box.
I think it was around $65.00 for the round trip.
Wow have things changed. It would be rediculuous to ship a $5000.00 to $12000.00 jet in cardboard.

I think it was around $150 to $165, maybe $200 with crating materials. Well worth the cost to get my jet to me unscathed..

It's just a shame that the shipping companies don't read or understand the word FRAGILE on the box. But they still put the box on the bottom of a 800 pound pallet. Also you guys with plywood Coffins, I bet you don't ship them through DHL, FEDEX or UPS... I believe UPS is got to be the worst shippers out there. I have been lucky using DHL, but recently used UPS and what do you know; they killed my box and it looks like a accordian now. The poor little jet never had chance to be built.
But thanks for insurace... now it's the long proccess of red tape.

The worst box I see for shipping was the one Easy_tiger shipped a Reaper fuse in. It was two cardboard garment boxes taped together. The fuse was wrapped in bubble wrap. The rods for the wings pertruded out the side. The Reaper is a turbine jet. The engine is in the rear and batteries in the nose. There was nothing to reinforce or provide strength to the box.
By the time the post office was done, the fuse was folded in half right where the boxes were taped together. Luckily, A friend was pretty good at fixing Chinese gelcoat. It lived to fly again. After, I paid for the repairs and did numerous upgrades.
That was my worst shipping nightmare. Nearly two years ago, and it aint't over.
