Looking for folks that have flown and or own any Fei Bao Jets. I am interested in several of their models. I really like the look of the Panther. All the web sites are slightly confusing on this company however, especially the companies web pages.
How do they perform? Hwo is the quality, scale realism, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Try the search button, there are pictures posted by me of this airplane. There is even a video on youtube that does not necessarily showcase my airplane, but it is flying in that video.

search "crash waco" it's a fei boe jet coming apart in the air!

I have just finished building (or installing!) a Velox.
It came painted in the Diamond Back scheme, not an amazing finish but still good. Formers were well fixed in, only found a few spots to be touched up. I had some work to do to fix in the my (Jet 1A) u/c. I needed tap some new threads for the elevator and wing bolts as these were a poor fit. Everything else was great, canopy work was all done and fitted perfectly and installation was easy.
I think the kit was great value for money, just be prepared to do a bit of work to get it to your own standards. I'd have another!
Hope this helps.

UC issues here in the UK. I'm hoping it's just a 1 off.
Put it this way they expect a 24lbs model to land on 1/2mm aluminium in the UC.
Not good.

Around here we had:
1. new F86 crash due to incorrect elevator stab incidence from factory (only later discovered) - a new model was provided from FB.
2. New Hawk second flight, crashed on a full speed low pass due to what appers to be a tail plane takeover, it just nosed in and splattered.
3. new MB339 second flight total loss of control = total lost crash and huge explosion - dont think its FB's fault but the fuse did become flexible when warm (turbine running).
outside of Israel i heard abiut the F-86 with delaminated wing, the flutter with the Rafale (saw a video) and a few more problems.
overall, a really bad record, thats scary stuff ! i think i will not be getting FB any time soon. at least until they work the bugs out.

Has anyone here flown the FB F-4? Like the ARF one that rcjets sells? It SEEMS like a real nice and easyway to have a large scale F4, but if it crashes, it won't be so easy anymore!

I have 3 FeiBao kits (2 Rafale and 1 F-15). Have started worked on one of the Rafale (sport scheme) and always looking around for info which will help me succed with my venture.
On the other hand, very interested to know how the wing tip trails are done. Great effect!!!
Regards.

How did you plumb the smoke in the tips? Any information would be greatly appreciated. It really adds to the model! I am trying to plumb an F-9 Panther for tip smoke replicating the Blues.
Thank you in advance.

I've got the FB small F-5 and a Rafale, built the first production MiG-21 (and another one a few months later), and just purchased the prototype Mirage F-1.
All in all I'd say that the fiberglass work is quite good, the paint finish is great but in some cases can chip easily due to insufficient surface preparation. The retract units can jam due to the sharp corner in the slot in the side frames (if you file a radius on the corner, this fixes the problem). The cylinders can leak at the ends of the travel so it can be problematic if you are using a UP2 or UP3 valve to control the retracts/gear doors. This isn't a problem if you are using 2 valves and a sequencer.
The factory installs of the gear doors and cylinders is quite good. Some planes have the "Chi-ply" retract mounts reinforced with a ~1/16" thick layer of poly-ply that really increases the strength.
The parts fit together well and there is less re-engineering that you need to do in comparison to the products of some of the other manufacturers.
As for Dewey's wingtip smoke, I asked him about it last year. He uses marine smoke flares. You taxi out and light them at the end of the runway and immediately take off. You only get about 90 seconds of smoke but it looks absolutely fantastic for those 90 seconds. Rolls are the bomb as you get a cool double helix of smoke.
Dewey, correct me if I remembered any of that wrong.
Regards,
Jim
