I have acquired a 44cc Tartan Twin (Model 77G), glow two stroke engine which I intend to put in an aeroplane. It is quite old but in nearly new condition. I am having problems getting the engine to run continuously and suspect we have the wrong settings for the Delorto carburettor. Could anyone please assist me with how the engine should be set up? Also which glow plugs do you recommend? Fuel mix or any other info to assist.

I am supprized you have not got more help by now. If a wabro carb would bolt on...that may help if you can get one off another one of your engines. If I get time ...I will read up on the Tartan twin and see. You may also consider spark ignition and eliminate the glo plugs. Make sure both cylinders have about the same compression and the crankcase sals are good. Hope this helps for now. Capt,n

Thanks for the tips, we managed to find a manual for the engine and got the settings correct. It is now running sweet as a nut, our next problem is going to be sourcing some propper props for it. The boss size is slightly larger than normal due to the manner of fitment and needs to be 22 millimeters in diameter with a thickness of 17.5 millimeters. We are looking for a 20 or 21x8 prop preferably wooden. If we can find the right sizing then we will order a few - just in case :-)

That is a LOT of propeller load for that engine - 20x8 is about all they really like to swing
try to setup a prop that allows at least 8000 rpm on the ground at a nice easy adjustment a bit rich .
depending on the mufflers used a slightly smaller prop may be best. Ther were a number of heads/mufflers intake setups so I don't know what you actually have
anyway let it rev a bit for best power and good running. The best setup would be alky and oil a wee bit of nitro and a spark ignition -but that is a lot of work-
gasoline conversion - avoid that on that engine
They did offer one at one time -it was not very good .

I have a 44cc twin setting 3ft from me, a great little engine it is !!
drop that Delorto carb quick and get yourself a Wabro,, if your engine starts dropping a cylinder at lower RPMs it is to lean on the low end,, run no more Nitro than 3% and no more oil than 8%, only Castor is needed but I guess some synthetic could be used ??, run hot plugs because it's a high compression engine, compression ratio is 11 to 1,,
if the cooling fins on top of the heads are a good 1/2 inch taller than the glow plugs it is a Super, it should be close to the power of a DA 50, but that power comes in a different form, it comes from higher RPMs,,
I plain to prop my Twin at 7800/8000,,
call here for a carb, just tell Mr. Cline you want a Walbro for your 44cc twin,,
