Hi,
My G20ei engine won't start. It's getting fuel, but there does not appear to be any spark. The documantation that come with the ignition unit is very sparce but apparently a JR switch harness was plugged
into the ignition in the wrong orientation. I'm concerned that this might have applied a reverse polarity to the ignition, but I'm not sure. Can someone confirm connections on the power input to the ignition
module? There is a black, a red and a white wire. I'm assuming that these correspond to GND, +V, and ??? (probably not used.).

Color coding is correct. If you plugged in wrongly, it shouldn't cause any damage as the negative would be where the white wire would be which is redundant. Its only when you plug in the sensor in the opposite way that damage could occur but you'd have to be awfully ham fisted for that to occur!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply! Is there a good way to test the ignition? Is the DC current draw a good indication that it's working? Can I pull the plug and watch for a spark as I flip the prop over?
Thanks,
John

Yes you can, just pull the plug and groung it against the cylinder head and with the ignition on just rock the prop back and forth past TDC and you should both see and hear the spark. Make sure that the plug is well grounded while the ignition is hot otherwise you could fry the ignition. No spark could mean a defective sensor or module, and if all else fails to get it started do nothing to void the warranty and send it back.

With the oem ignition, you'll need to be certain you are testing with a fully charged battery, they are power hungry. In your testing for spark with the plug removed, you might also avoid the switch all together or try a different one to rule that out as the problem.
