hi....
I am thinking of adding a second car to my rc collection. I probably will get mugen mst-1.
anyways, I currently have jr xs3 radio with RS300 receiver(crystal free). does that mean that i have to use the very same receiver with my transmitter? or
I can still use different kind of receiver that maybe uses crystal?
could you guys also recommend some servos for 1/10th offroad stadium truck!!?? thanks in advance

From: Pax River, MD,
you can use any JR FM 3-channel receiver with that transmitter. I've heard other brands may work but I not 100% sure which ones.
I use a Hitec HS-5625MG servo for my XXXNT. Works great and was only $50. It has 130oz.in torque and .14 sec transit time at 6V. Just watch your receiver pack voltage (all digital servos use more amps than a regular servo)

i have the xs3
i dont know if you can use other radios or not ...ill look in the book. if you do use another one im sure you will have to use rx crystals, becuase the rx that comes with the xs3 has dials on it you turn when you choose your freq.
the radio itself has all 30 channels inside so you would only need 1 for the rx. that kinda defeats the purpose of buying that radio.

I have same radio - was told by my LHS that Novak receivers work - they use a crystal but they cost $30 more than the RS300. Why would you not just get the RS300?

The Novak receivers requiring crystals are more expensive than the RS300 crystal-less receiver? Even the Novak XXXtra receiver (also crystal-less) is a mere $10 more than the JR equivalent - both are right around $90-100. Everywhere I've looked the Novak receivers requiring crystals (e.g. Novak XXL are only $60.00).
I use a cheapo JR 133 receiver in my second buggy and it works just fine with my JR XS3 synthesized transmitter. It's a cheap alternative to buying another crystal-less receiver. Basically any JR receiver will work as will the Novak's - as long as you set the transmitter to match the crystal in the receiver.

The following has been tested by guys I race with, as well as LHS personnel. My personal recommendation is to stay with the manufacturer or Novak Synthesized.
You must use crystal sets from the same manufacturer as the radio (i.e. KO radio use KO crystal sets for both tx and rx).
JR radio can use JR, KO, Futaba tuned XXL, or Novak Synthesized. If you do use the XXL in a nitro car, make sure you pad them with foam and shock mount them.
