i was recently givena lawn mower engine by my neighbor. i was originally thinking about making a go kart but everyone does that
lol. i was thinking, provided i have the engine, what do you think it would take to make a large(i dont care the scale
) rc car? i was thinking i could probably hit around 90mph at 5hp if 2.5hp can power the 4tec to 60 or so. could i use 1/10 scale gears without many problems? i was thinking of ordering large tires and stuff. the one thing that im mainly concerned about is the steering
how will i get it working? i know the basics of servos and stuff. if i buy a decent radio/servo pack i could use it on this project car until i get the cash to get a kit and an engine possibly. spread out the expenditures
i dont care if it is uglier than the beleimic ***** across the street, as long as it is fast i will be happy
what do you guys think? any suggestions on how to get things working or things that could potentially give me major problems?

you wont get near 90 mph. Lawn mower engines dont have high rpms like nitro engines. Dont just think that because its has 5 hp that it will double the speed. remember, the bigger the engine the less rpms. you will probably be making a 1/4 scale right?????????????

The power to weight ratio of a lawn mower engine isnt
anywhere near as good as rc engines. but with real tall
gears you could get it going pretty fast in a BIG area.
I dont think you should use 1:10 parts at all. In fact I
would mostly use go-kart parts and HUGE servos.
Just be carefull cause you could kill people with a toy
like that.

USe that motor as long as it's a Horizontal shaft for a good go-cart for yourself. Stick to RTR's or KIT's due to your experiance. When you increase size you decrease the speed it has to go to kill someone. Due to the size of the Servo's needed alone you could use the money to buy a 1:10 or 1:8 scale RTR.
Stick with the basics till you get some actual time under your belt.
Also watch the language. I know it gets censored but still the thaught counts.
