Default Foam inserts

I am going to buy a HPI Type SS soon, and I am confused about tires. So here are my questions:

1. Is it possible (and good) to glue the tire to the rim without using a foam insert?

2. Do you have to glue foam inserts in, or just stick 'em in there and they stay?

3. What is the best kind of foam insert that will allow the best combination of good handling and tire life?

4. Does the type ss take 26mm foam?
