Getting back into RC, picking up an associated B44, losi XXX-T CR and associated B4 team buggy.
the b4 and xxxt are going to be running 13.5's and am going to put in 10.5 into the B44.
Which brands and models are most recommended? Last time I was in RC I had a 10.5 novak setup in my XXX4 and loved it.
As I am looking around at other options I see associated has a 13.5 setup for like 150-160ish compared to the 200+ for the novak.
Are these setups similiar? Which setups would you all recommend?
thanks again

Personaly, I like the Novak set up's, but there is Tekin, SpeedPasion, losi, and Mamba, all good products. It's going to depend on how much cash you are willing to part with. I race on a budget, so I go with the Novak XBR and Havoc esc's, not the best, but they work for me.

They seem to be able to handle the same brushed/brushless motors. There any main differences between brands to be aware of?

Look at the new novak havoc system and its derivatives, if you aren't going to be going above a 17.5, 13.5, 10.5, or 8.5 motor, that's been the best cheap system out there for a while.

When I was originally looking to get a sensored brushless system a while ago I was looking at the LRP (Associated) sytems too. But I really couldn't find anybody that had them or could comment on their quality. I eventually picked up a Novak systme, and now I have three. I really like them a lot. I've never had a problem with any of them. I've still never used an Associated system, so I can't really comment on them. I've used their brushed ESCs in the past and have been satisfied.
The Novak Havok Spec system comes in 10.5, 13.5, 17.5 and 21.5 turn setups. They are $150 and I like them a lot for the price. They can handle down to a 8.5 turn brushless motor, but can only handle a 27 turn brushed motor. If you want to be able to use it to run mod brushed you won't be able to.
Novak has just released a Havok Pro system, which comes with their latest motor (the ballistic series) and a Havok Pro ESC. This ESC has more programming features and can handle down to 3.5 turn brushless. I think it's just under $200. Definitely looks like a good system for the price. The ESC has similar specs (as far as amperage and resistance specs) to their more expensive GTB line.

If money is not an issue, look in to Tekin. I bought a motor from them on a whim to use with my sidewinder esc and totally dig it. They have a good reputation for durability and there customer support is good too.
