Do you spend 1/3 of your precious RC build / repair time on the floor looking for that one stupid screw? I do, and frankly i got sick of it.............always on my hands and knees diggin under stuff for that screw you can never find. Well now i take an old cardboard box and punch holes it in with a little nail and push the screws into it. I draw little diagrams so i wont forget the exact location of the certain screw, and i write general notes on it. This particular side of this box (i use all four sides) is of my E-maxx tranny tear down and rebuild. I havent lost a screw since i've started doing this and everything goes back together just how it came apart. Just a little tip i thought i would share.

Nice tip, thanks. I do mine on a flat table with a border around it made out of cardboard, so that it keeps flying ones from flying quite so far. every now and then I get a home run, but the cats usually run off with those so they're easy to find... just chase the cat!

if I do my work on the carpet my screws get lost inside it...
so of course I always work on the carpet, lol. Pretty funny with your cats projct.
Thanks for the tip, next time I have to replace something major I might give this a try....I always find myself wondering where each screw goes...I think I've been getting lucky

parts trays, or if i'm on the floor, cuz i got something else taking up my desk, i try to work on a large white towel i have for that or like spraying stuff so i don't kill the carpet, (tho i think the time i very stupidly just dropped the soldering pen on it, (hot of course) as opposed to my stand, killed it)

my way: Exploded view + Digital Caliper
When I first got into this hobby, everytime I took something apart and back together. I always have extra screws left(That's bad). A lot of times, screws were in the wrong place too and it was kind of frustrating.
Now what I do is, use the exploded view and my MasterCraft digital caliper. When taking things apart, i just put all the screws together. When it comes to putting everything back, I do it one screw at a time. I check the exploded view and look up the screw in the reference sheet, then use my digital caliper to make sure that it is the correct one. This way I can 100% guarantee that I have all the screws in and in the right place.
Digital Caliper is one of the most useful tools that I've ever purchased in this hobby.

That's a good thing. When you are more familiar with your rig, you can fix it much faster than an average noob... which could keep you in a race.
