Default I killed my Castle 5700kv motor, recommendations?

Hey guys, I killed my CC 5700kv today. Was hitting some big air on concrete and landed on the motor. [:@] I don't think it can be saved easily. What are some similar motors that are about equal in power? Are there any with a true 540 rotor and/or run cooler/more efficiently? I'm not necessarily looking for the same kv but the same wattage. Thanks!

I need to make a bumper for the truck to avoid this in the future (and not run on concrete)!

What are you running it in? The Castle MM motors are some of the best on the market, maybe look at the MM4600.

Velineon VXL is a great choice.................lots of torque, and you can gear it just how you like it. It really comes out of the hole and out of turns quick. Traxxas made a Sub-par esc.............but a great motor!

i'd almost go for a higher KV personally i have the 4600 and can't get it to stop wheeling, it has too much power this is on a 2s, and yes i have it geared up a ton, and i've changed all settings on castle link. i like the torque but i don't need it all

You can't limit torque by gearing or higher KV, any brushless system with sintered rotors, etc. is going to have monster torque (zero to top speed in 1.5 to 3 seconds, traction allowing). You're just going to put more strain on your setup if you do this. I know Novak offers some 'L' motors which are a bit tamer than their normal line, and some replacement rotors, but otherwise you just have to learn throttle discipline.

It's going into a 2wd stadium truck (E-Firestorm). I'd say Velineon motor is in the lead, they do seem to be pretty sweet.

How about the Venom motors? My LHS has a few.

i know but it seems that it takes me 300 feet to get up to WOT, with out wheeleing, and i have a SW4600 so no novak motors for me,

I'd like to see a study on that. I do know they generate more heat as you gear up.

Then it might be a weight balance / CG, aerodynamics, or suspension problem... and no problems with putting a sensored motor into a sensorless ESC, just not the other way around (since a sensored motor is really just a sensorless motor plus a sensor on the endbell).

How are the Losi systems? I was looking into picking up one because they are so cheap and they have built in fans over the ESC nice option.

How about the EZ Run 5.5T, would that be pretty equivalent powerwise to a CC 5700kv?

Casper, overall its been great i used a 4600 sidewinder on 3s and a 7700 on 2s and my losi exlerorin 4800 has more torque then both, faster with longer run times, and alot less heat there usb hookup works great too

To be totally honest I actually already have a VXL 3500kv motor, but I'm sticking it in a buggy. I put in a (low) bid on another one on Ebay for the truck. Will probably get outbid. In the meantime I went to my LHS and picked up a Venom 6.5t. I am pretty sure its the same as a XERun motor. Its capable of being run in sensored mode (in case I get that sweet new CC sensored ESC!!!). The specs are 6500kv, only 2s lipo max, 100A max on 7.2v, 418w on 7.2v. Seems like its a tad hotter than the 5700kv. If I could have looked at the spec sheet ahead of time I would have probably gotten the 7.5t but this will do.

I may email Castle and see if they will attempt to fix the 5700kv as well. [&:]

PS: I also have a 13t EZrun brushless motor but being 3000kv (and a being more of a 380 size motor) I'm hoping they let me run it in stock type classes. Sounds like I'll have a motor for whatever conditions I come across.

So you went up in KV? It will most likely fry too.............try to run it on the smallest pinion you can darn near find, it may stand a chance that way. Hope it works out for you.

Just to be clear, the Castle didn't fry, temps were actually ok for a Castle, I hear they tend to run hot. I jumped it on concrete and landed right on the motor. Pulled the endbell partially off. OUCH!
