Default Back many many years later.

When I was a kid, I had a grasshopper that I ran till it eventually fell apart.

today... over 2 decades later, I'm back.

My Rerelease Frog Kit was delivered this morning.
Cant wait to get home and start the build.

I've heard this same story a million times. Tamiya really hit the nail on the head when they started the RE-RE's. I'm a big Tamiya fan and i'm now able to buy all of the cars I couldn't afford as a kid.

Welcome back to RC's. A lot has changed for the better so feel free to hit me up if you have any questions. One word of advise on the Frog build. Use blue loctite on everything that threads into metal.

Thanks for the tip. grabbed some locktite on my way home from work.

I'd guess I got about a third of the way through the build tonight.

got my radio and servos coming friday or saturday and an airbrush kit should be here by then...

I should be tearing up some dirt somewhere by the end of the weekend.

I cant get the middle piece inside the tire.
Ive stretched and pulled even tried to use a screwdriver to pry the rubber around the middle piece. I still cant get it in there.

keep at it, it will fit. just make sure you're not trying to put the centers from a read wheel in a front tire. lol

welcome back, my story is similar. re-re's are the best!</p>

Nice!! Welcome back to the hobby!!

Be sure to check in the Frog thread if you are bored!!

Oh, the center piece of the rim takes some effort to put in, but it is not hard.. you turn the plastic piece sideway, and roll into the tires if you will.. (check your manual!) while pulling the rubber over it.. !

I feel you. I started with nitro boats in the 70s, traded a boat for a Frog in the 80s and got hooked. Went right into the RC10s, then the YZ10s and then Clods. Gave it all up during a divorce in 2001. Then decided to start back this year, Bought a E Revo in January now I have a MGT 8.0, SC10, RC10B4, RC10T4, RC8Te, Summit, Stampede, Slash and my wife has a E Revo, Rustler VXL, Highroller and a Strike.

Brushless, LiPo and 2.4GHz radio are the bomb, so much different than the old days. I ran my E Revo with Mamba Monster 2650Kv with 4S at 25C on our local outdoor track with some 1/10th scale and 1/8th scale nitros and blew them away. You are gonna love the hobby today.

For the rims. I had a hard time with those on my first hornet. Use some dish soap on the tire and the wheel should slip right in. There will still be some pulling and pushing but it's much easier with the soap.

Using foul language helps alot as well

Lunchbox: Ive been reading that frog thread, it's actually how I found these forums, doing broad searches for Frog info.

I saw the diagram in the manual on the tire... I just cant get it in there.I'm going to try soaking the tire in hot soapy water tonight to see if I can get a little more elasticity in the rubber.I'll get em, was just wondering if there was some trick I was missing.

When I decided to get back into the hobby, there was really no question in my mind which one I wanted to start with. I had the grasshopper as a kid back in 19coughcough, and instantly wanted the Frog. Of course asking the parents for another 250$ toy a month after them buying me a 200$ toy would not have gone over well so I stuck with my Grasshopper.

I've also got a vintage grasshopper on the way that I got cheap through ebay, and I'd like to do a lunchbox with a Landrover body.

I see this getting expensive :P

could someone recommend a good engine upgrade for my frog?

*Edit*
guess that's kinda like asking "how long is a piece of string"

something with a little more speed, little more torque, that doesnt cost as much as the whole car did.

I'd say 100 bucks is about as much as I'd want to spend on a motor upgrade.

In my opinion, a new brushed motor is a waste in such a great re-release

Brushless motors offer more power and zero maintenance. You need a new speed control to use them, though, it's worth it!

Castle Creations' Sidewinder Sport is a pretty good brushless motor and speed control combo. The Mamba Max is quite a bit better though for very little price difference.

I'd strongly suggest brushless, no matter what brand you choose. It's a waste to spend more than $50USD on brushed motors - brushless blows them away...
