yeah, you'll probally need some VXL spec tranny parts diff and idler gear specifically, if you don't allready have FULL ball bearings not just in the tranny, get them, for a batter most will say just go lipo, if its in your budget get one and a good charger for it, if not, www.cheapbatterypacks.com (get the packs upgraded) and http://www.promatchracing.com/, both are good NIHM packs, i'd go for at least 4200mha but the more the better and the closer they're balanced the better, for a BL sytem idk what your price range is but a lot of people with say sidewinder with VXL motor, i'm gunna say the sidewinder 4600 combo or a novak havoc with a 8.5 or so all these BL setups are no more than $160

Throw a 10 turn or lower brushless setup in there and toss in a lipo and you'll be all set. The Traxxas VXL system is user friendly and makes good power/tons of torque, but it's not very adjustable. Maybe take a look at Castle Creations Mamba/Sidewinder 4600 or 5700 systems as well. If you're going to race, maybe consider a Novak, LRP, or Tekin system. You shouldn't have any trouble clearing jumps with any of these systems, especially if you couple it to lipo power.

a six or seven cell or a 2s lipo should be good for now, like i said 4200mha but if you can get a 5K pack that'd give you plenty of runtime and power

the hobbycity packs are great. they just released a turnigy 5000mah 2s hardcase pack and it's only $20. i might have to pick me up some of those for my rustler....it's too bad i already dremeled the crap out of the chassis to fit my 5000mah flightmax 3s pack.
