Default Looking at getting an 8ight-E or an RC8E

Hello!

I was pondering about getting an 8ight-E. However, a friend of mine was telling me about some of the problems with the Losi brushless motor and suggested that I get a race roller, electric conversion kit and the Castle Creations Brushless system. We roughly compared cost and either way is about equal, there may be a slight advantage to the kit, but if there are issues with the motor or if there are other systems that are better that's worth the little extra then the savings may not be that big of a deal. I would like some more input. Which do you feel is the better way to go? Feel free to voice your opinions!

Thanks & be good

Matt

Your friend is giving you sound advice. For whatever reason, Losi chose to buy JUNK from who knows where, and put their label on it. It's JUNK, so do yourself a favor. Get the Roller, Conversion, and either a Castle or a Tekin system; Novak HV is JUNK too.

Yeah, he said that about the Novak as well. He said, in general, that Tekin was great just pricey, I have used Castle Creations before and have never had any problems. He is an avid racer so respect his opinion, I'm just a basher right now, and was thinking about getting into racing this next season. Don't want the hassle of nitro to race with - pit guy and so on, electric I can go by myself and not have to depend on someone else, nor do I have to depend on my poor tuning skills!

more input is welcome!

Thanks,

Matt

OK, I have been looking around, and hadn't thought about the Associated buggy. I like Associated, my first hobby grade RC was a RC10. Now one thing that looks to be the biggest difference in the 2 are cost, the electric kit for the RC8E is only 2/3 that of the 8ight. Thinking most things should be equal - one thing that is real appealing to me about the 8ight is the smart diff option for the front end. what are your opinions on the 2?

The 8e is better for eelctric conversions than the RC8e because first of all, the RC8e only comes with 1 version, while with the 8ight you could buy the 2.0 rr or rtr nitro roller, 1.0 rtr or kit roller, 1.0 E or 2.0 E so you have lots of options. Also the center diff on the Losi is offset so it isnt striaght like the RC8, which the offset center diff leads to better balance with electric conversions.

The version reasoning is flawed, it just means there is that much more to choose from, once you decide on one, the only changes you are likely to make are upgrades or repairs. Lets say I decide on the 8ight 2.0 E, from there out it won't matter how many other choices there are in the Losi line-up.

Now the offset is something to consider, any one else care to chime in on this - from my understanding the ofsets can cause power loss and contributes to more wear on the uv's. Am I wrong about that?

Anyway, I have plenty of time to figure out which one I want to try - so any input is again - greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

I don't think associated made or makes a dedicated chassis for electric motors, though they are available from other sources. I have a converted RC8-RS and a converted RC8T-FT, both have aftermarket chassis kit conversions that offset the center diff for balance and it gives more room for the battery tray/esc. If and when I decide to do another buggy I'll aim higher than losi or associated and get an x-ray or mugen and try to make it sub 7 pounds.

Out of the box I think the Losi buggy has more going for it: lighter, diffs easier to change/repair, inexpensive smart diffs. Smart diffs are available for the RC8 but you're looking at more than $250 each, where losi smart diffs can be bought for less than $100.

These aftermarket chasis look good - how do they perform? What was cost?

Thanks,
