Default Washer trick fail

Ok so I tried this washer trick on my Pede. http://monster.traxxas.com/showthrea...highlight=diff Now I put a small split washer in between the axle stubs as shown, but that just forced them apart and now it will only spin one tire period. Now I did put new grease in it when I put it back together, could this be causeing it? too much grease? I dont see how, but then again I didnt see how forceing the stubs apart Out of the sun gears made both of them turn. Yes I know how a diff works, and in theroy the washer should "lock" them together but I thought you would need to keep them closer to each other inside sun gears? Any ideas on what I messed up?

lol , i have been using fuel tubing , it fits perfect on the center pin and i squish it together. you can adjust the tension by either less tubing or more tubing , but like everything else it eventually breaks apart
