Default Older VXL Velineon motor waterproof?

I see that Traxxas now has the newer waterproof Velineon system, and I see the motor has changed a bit; It looks like it has one sealed side where the motor shaft is and the older moter can has two sides that can be unscrewed from the can...I don't want to buy another motor if I don't need it. I have the older style motor and was wondering how much less waterproof it is versus the new one?
Also I have read thet the Castle Mamba Max esc is waterproof as well?

I have run the older vxl motor in wet conditions, primarily snow, with no ill effects. I keep it well cleaned after each use.

The motors are fine, I wd40 them before running to help repel water. Also, you can easily seal the esc's with some silicone.
