Default Need help finding electronics and drivetrain for my boat

<meta charset="utf-8" />I am building a model Pirogue (for Lewis and Clark in social studies) and I want to RC it when I am done with it in class. It is about 23 inches long by 6 wide by 4 inches tall. It has balsa wood ribs with balsa wood planks. Very lightweight. I was thinking to avoid cutting lots of holes it it I could set it out like a Thai river boat with the motor high up on the back with a long shaft going into the water. Please tell me if these electronics and drivetrain will work.
I was looking at these electronics:
Radio: Probablytraxxasradio, but I am open to suggestions
Servo: Waterproof car servo

And this drivetrain:
Motor mount:http://www.horracing.com/product_info.php?products_id=131

I need ideas for steering. I was thinking of putting the motor on some sort of turntable (any ideas of how to make on?).
Would all of this work? I am new here. And I am very much open to suggestions on layout also. I was thinking of putting the motor on a flat triangular plate that covers that area between the last rib and the rear end.

And thanks for the help

I was also looking at this electronics combo
and this eschttp://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=dh-aqum7005

My boat:

This is how the Thai boats are set up:
