WOW dude

that is one well built boat, Everything is nice and neat.
Ive notied its got everything, nulock nuts, taped connectors, velcor battery straps, even custom supports for everything.... cool

im still learning but why are the rudders off to one side?
is that to help turning right? or to help with motor torque?
Offset rudder makes for a faster boat and better handling since water is not spraying on it constantly.

I (respectfully) disagree that an"offset rudder makes for a faster boat". I believe an offset rudder is actually slower than an inline rudder. An inline rudder (in aerated prop wash) should have less drag - similar to aeration that a stepped hull encounters. But because of that, it can't react as quickly as an offset rudder in 'undisturbed' water, and handling suffers. Faster, no; better handling, yes.

Does that mean outdrives have the best of both?

I hope I'm not making a mistake converting this thing to twin traxxas out drives and villain gearboxes and shafts...
Too late now, everything is on order apart from the universal joints and out drive prop shaft. Haven't thought much about the electronics, I've only worked out what reciver and steering servo so far.... Wouldn't mind trying some 4s or 5s lipos this time, I've only ever had 2s and 3s

Damm... Why did u show me that. Lol

Ok I've spend $45 so far over 2 weeks..... Bugga

I've been thinking heaps about ESC, I'm assuming boats don't need the punch that cars need... I've been happily running 35a ezrun combos with 540 sized 380 core motors in my cars, buggies etc and im happy with the results and have often wonder why run a higher amp esc?

Do boats require less punch because the prop slips in the water?
And do they need higher amp esc because of there increased drag/rolling resistance?

Ive done some fitting but made a mistake, I forgot to mesure in the transoms curve with mounting the outdrives.... BUGGA

Well ive fitted some old burnt out brushed motors so i dont loose the screws & was supprised at how high they sit, ive even cut the motor mount down as much as i could so it would sit lower, with any luck might be able to get the battery under the motors

Looks like it is coming along nicely! I too had a time with the curved transom when installing the jet drive. But no real problem. Sdg.

man, I love this rebuild, might have to look at doing up another NQD boat after the jet drive one Too much inspiration on this forum

Quick question, would you be doing counter rotating motors/ props in this dual setup?

if not, could you? would it be an advantage? (it is better on a full scale boat, just not sure if it translates to a model boat)

ha ha cant wait to get it finished...

but yes will be doing counter rotating motors/ props in this dual setup. Because with out them counter rotating the boat would pull to one side.
The fun part will be working out if they should spin top in or bottom in... all depends how it will sit in the water with speed.

Hows i found this the other day & might be using it as a base paint job
Oh i sware these boats we have are a cheaper clone of these.... have a look only main differance it the bottom of the hull

Hows I even found the real deal

Hey there, I see your from Adelaide!

Where did you get your outdrives?

I got 2 of these boats from a mate and pulled them apart straight away as I know how crap the original setups are.
Just need to make up my mind what to do with them.
Was considering using a spare outrunner motor I have here.  That's as far as I got...

hey a fellow Adelaiden....

I got the bits from ebay, cheaper than the hobby shop still a little pricy... they are from a Traxxas Vilian.

If u still have the old radio gear & its works, connect up some car relays and drop in a 600 size motor.... I did that to mine but i shorted it when soldering it in.... forgot to disconect the battery after testing..... bugga

UPDATE...

Well ive removed the grease & im replacing the oillite bushes just incase the grease blocked there pores.
Ive ordered a vintage traxxas oiling kit for the shafts (TRX 1545) should have hardly any resistance in the driveshafts...

Im having problems with the uni joints... still not here
Ive ordered the new bushes & rubber boots to find out they are not in stock GRRRR
My cooling kit came today but is missing the collets for the hose going through the hull.... AHHHHHHH

Well ive removed the shafts & the putty came out with them BAHHHHHHHHHHHHGRRRRRR
Im going to redo them soon, Ive cut the motor mounts down more, now they sit even lower in the hull
I Fitted the water pickups... will fine tune there angle & height when it looking more complete....
Well im slowly getting there

Hey guy's just waking up this thread as I've got one of these boat's for me youngest son(8) for only 40 bucks ,running and with 3 NiCad Batteries.
Well isn't it a slow bucket ,so I decided to see what it would do on 11.1v liPo and was very surprised with the speed (good for the son) but not for me
so in went a 4s battery and WOW [X(] did the thing move but as expected it blow up the std speedie with a big bang might I add (scared the crap outta me[X(]) lol.

Anyway the mission is to upgrade as per what you guy's hav done,so stay tuned
laterrr......
