Default Riviera Wood hull FE

Iv been playing with a few boats to build for the wife and the other day at the LHS they were cleaning the back room out while i was there,up came this beautiful wood hull turtle back (1953 Chriscraft riviera) The price was right and i had just the motor for it, blue can 8xl with my mamba max ESC on 14 cell's,after replacing the stuffing tube with a .187 and adding some water proofing ill be ready to try her out next weekend.

looks nice! Can't wait to see it. Are you going to run the stock straight shaft? You might want to fix the angle of thrust to push straight back. I think if you have the way you did last weekend, it will be literally hopping out of the water like a dolphin at sea world. A metal prop is a must since you will break plastic or cf props. make sure all is secure in there too. Can't wait to see it go.

Hey Ron,Yes iv changed the angle on her and put a .187 stuffing tube/flex shaft in there. Iv also got a nice octura prop coming (this morning) but i do still have a lot more of the internals to epoxy down and get all nice and secure,The wife wants Lipo cell's in there to save weight and max out the runtime Though i think the 3600 cell's are plenty for her.

I was curious how the hull handled the power and whether you had done any mods to the hull itself.
These get pretty wild on a standard 700 can motor and 14 cells. They need a lot of trim tab adjustment to keep the bow in check(porpoising)and I know of two people with the same bozt that have had theirs barrel roll at speed.

Mine is on a 12xl and 4S 4700 lipo power, the planing surface at the transom has been modded to take the rocker out of the hull.
Throw a straight edge along the keel to see what i mean

Also, the hull is based on a Riva Corsaro,as a couple of the other Equipage hulls are.(Riva based that is)
Do a Google search and you'll find a couple of cool Riva sites, though very few Corsaro shots.
Have fun,Fleetmaster.

Your Riviera looks to be the earlier model like mine and fleetmasters. They weren't finished in what you could call the best clear that money can buy, in fact it is a pretty thin coat. Myself, fleetmaster and a lot of guys over in your neck of the woods have had trouble with planks swelling when wet and then in the dry conditions shrinking to a point where they were popping off the bulkheads. One of the guys described it as popping like popcorn whilst he watched. I don't want to get your hopes on this craft down or anything however I recommend that if you want to keep it looking nice, strip the original clear off and replace it with a good clear epoxy and a bit of 1oz mat. An inside coating is recommended as well.
A lot of work I know, but these Equipage boats were the first of their kind in a mass production sort of way and are assembled in Vietnam where the humidity is a lot greater. The later ones are a lot better from what I have been told.
I originally powered mine on a Johnson 785 with a 40mm prop and 14 cells and all I can say about that is it was like a performing dolphin. It looks a lot better at scale speed anyway, I am interested to see how it will go with the change of angle on the prop though, please keep us informed.

I can get a Monaco 100 for $169 at a fire sale.looks good but am worried about the clear.I am an automotive painter and think that I would scuff and add 3 coats of urethane auto clear to seal the wood.
Maybe they are old stock, but I would like to pick one out that is good and try it.

I thought the mamba max esc could only handle 12 cells?
