Default Shockwave 26 RS EP RTR

What "upgrade" motors have you guys had success with in the Shockwave 26 (i.e. more speed without frying the motor or ESC)?

I bought a 15x2 motor, since the ESC is rated for a 15T motor, but I read in another post that a guy fried his ESC with a 15x2! I wonder if his was an older version of the boat with a different ESC.

Thanks!

g'day good question - I'm thing of going brushless with my girlfriends SW26 - if you come up with a better idea - please pass on Downunder - another question is how can i strengthen the hull agai I'm thinking of very thin layer of fiber glass - what you think?

That motor is not going to work. You could try a 19 turn and you will be lucky if the stock esc will handle that. Sounds like you are talking about 540 size CAR motors. If you really want to upgrade it with a brushed motor then get a 600 size motor and a bigger prop, but you will have to get a better esc. The Jeti 600 would be a good choice.

Yea, ive been wondering on this as my shockwave is in the mail and should be here this week! I think we need to make a offical thread for the shockwave 26 were we can post pics and mods weve done and how they work! When im gonna upgrade to a brushless i will try a 15t motor on the stock esc....I will also try 12 cells with the stock motor and see how that goes as ive read it can only handle up to 10 cells....Well who wants to start the thread? Ill do it if anyone wants the thread?

as far as I know the new version the 26rs has a sub surface drive . I'd like to start a thread as I do have one . I like it alot , it seems like a really fun boat . Im running some gp3900 thru it , and its pretty good . I'd like to go up to a 600 can size motor just to see what it will do . I also have a team orion 15x2 motor with adjustable timing that Im really thinking about putting in there . Any thoughts would be nice .. .see ya .

I think you have it backwards, the old version had the subsurface drive. The new version has a surface drive.

the new version is surface drive as the old version was sub-surface drive, the new version is water cooled, better esc etc...do some research and youll find out! I think we need to make a offical thread like the supervee27 as this boat is very fun i think with a little mods! Ill post some vids later if you want them!

I checked the specs on the factory esc. . it can handle a fifteen turn motor, so I will try my method R 17X2 and see how she runs .

Yeah... even though the ESC is rated for a 15T, you can still overload the motor, cause excessive current draw, and fry your ESC. The question is, with your 17x2, what prop size will be OK... the stock prop may overload it. The safest way to test it out is to find out the max amp rating for the ESC and motor, hook up a wattmeter, and run a couple of short full throttle burst (in the water), and then look at the max current draw on the meter to see if you're exceeding the motor or ESC ratings. I think any experimenting I do will be with my wattmeter first (see below).

I think I'll take the advice in that old thread, and try a 600 or 700 motor, more cells, etc. Sounds like lower turn motors really need smaller props or gearboxes. I guess I shouldn't be surprised... that holds true with electric planes as well. Looks like Wheelnut has "been there, done that" with a 15x2 motor... so I think I'll save mine for another RC car/truck!

yea a 600 or 700 sized motor would probably be best, because they have the torque and speed to get you up on plain and yet give good speed.im just gonna stick a brushless system in mine. I hate brushed motors to high maitnence. Which i hate.... But before i go brushless im gonna throw 12 cells in with the stock motor and stock prop and see how it does then. I will put in a different motor and see how it goes! Hopefully this stock esc can take 12 cells ive read only 10 cells but hey im going brushless so why not try it!

this is an old thread, but im gonna try to bring it back to life. i have ran 9 cells 3500 mah in my shockwave 26. didnt increase speed much, due to weight. then tried 10 cell 4200 mah. ran for 2 min, fried ut stock motor, esc is fine. but so far i cant beat my 7 cell 4200 mah with 16.9 mph. stock prop and motor.

Nice,,,, I just got a new Shockwave 26 RS. Its an amazing boat in a straight line its fast and stable. I'm not happy with the quilty of the hardware ie. setscrews and tools are worth sh**. I didn't even run the stock esc/motor. I swap with a traxxas villienom xl brushless setup with maxamps 2s 4000mah battery, which lasts about 10mins. I want to change the prop to something bigger, any suggestions. Also the AM radio sucks, I will be swapping the reciever with my spectrum 2.4. Anyway I'd love to start up this thread again and have some videos and pics posted of these things moddied. I'm post some pics soon.
