RE: Formula Fastech Brushless
monsterbrad whats the runtime using the reedy7.4v 5000 35C lipos? basically just wondring if the 5000 to 5200 range will give long enough runtime for me. seems alot easier to fine good packs with high c rating like 35 or 40 in the 5000 range.. im gonna stay away from maxamps for now, read too much bad and did some price comparing. looking at trinity 5200 35C, reedy 5000 35c, and smc 5200 40c, and smc 6000 28C. what would be your guys top pick for this boat and also use in my e-maxx.

All those batteries are awesome. Any one of those battery's have more than enough amps for your boat and monstertruck. Even the "weakest" batterys (28c * 6000 mAh = 168 amps) will be more than enough for both your boat and monstertruck.
Heard alot of good about SMC. Never tried though..

RE: Formula Fastech Brushless
I have the Reedy batteries and they are good.
anything with that high of a Mah rating and the 30c area are good bats.
The only thing I can say about the reedy ones that I have and I balance charge them all the time they come off the charger really really zippy then drop off a bit but still have tons of power.
I am running them in a Losi XXXT with a 10.5.

I would go with the 6000mah packs for the added run time!

would i notice any speed or performance difference between a 5000 40c and a 6000 28c? is it basically both batteries would keep up with the draw that boat needs so only difference would be longer runtime with the 6000? sorry, im just still trying to grasp all this, and wanna get the best possible performance i can. and why is it that most bigger packs like 8000 are only 20 or 22C? would those be even slower?

RE: Formula Fastech Brushless
you calculate how "good" the batteries are by multiplying the c rating by the mah. if it is a 5900mah battery 30c drain you do 5.9x30 and you get your amps. the amps are all that really mattery in the battery. the more amps the pack puts out the more power you have. so the 5000mah battery with the 40c is 5x40 and you have a 200amp battery. if your running two of them thats a 400amp setup.
with the 6000mah 28c its 6x28 and you have a 168 amp battery and a 336 amp set up. both batteries are well over what the system can even use so they are both good batteries. you will notice almsot no difference whatsoever in the two packs except for the longer run time with the 6000mah.
if there is bad spelling sorry. power went off once tryin to get this typed before happens again.

thanks! makes perfect sense to me now. im now looking for a good place to get the trinity 5200 35C, and it already has a trx connector for me> seems like pretty good all around spec wise. just worried why the spc 6000 is alot cheaper than the rest im looking at. are they inferior?

My only suggestion is to have someone in the US buy them and then ship the lipos to you.
Ive done this for several people before.

RE: Formula Fastech Brushless
hey what is everyone using to hold the batteries down in the fastech? im using 7cell nimh packs that are too long for the stock battery slots so they hang over the front cross piece and i been just putting a zip tie through one of the holes and around the pack. holds very solid but i imagine the center of gravity isnt the best with that setup. i did finally order a pair of smc 6000 28c lipos. i cant wait to try them out. any pictures or descriptions of what you use to hold down your batteries in the intended spots would be awesome. and has anyone tried just sitting them there, do they stay put? oh one last question, should i put my lipos in a baloon or bag first when running them? my boat does take on some water during runs. these lipos are in a hardcase but i guess that doesnt mean waterproof..

Hi
Here is a vid of my Formula (and more).
I`ve had it for a year, and now run 2x 5s2300 parallell and a slightly larger cheap propeller. Never ever had any problems

Nice boats! Looks like you have the trim perfect on your Formula Fastech!

I changed the setup on the Formula the other day, lowering the bow a bit. As you can see in the vid the boat became unstable and I lost a lot of top speed. Both Blackjacks are running 2x 2s lipos.

Bumpiddy Bump. I was wondering if anyone has changed out their ESC for something more powerful? I was wondering about getting a 120 amp for next boating season.. Any recommendations?

RE: Formula Fastech Brushless
Mine's on the shelf - i fitted my wiring harness to accept my new a123 setup for 19.8v so I'm ready for spring!
I've gotten into loading ammo for my 45acp 1911, 357 mag, and .223 these past couple of months so the RC hobby will wait until spring.

RE: Formula Fastech Brushless
LOL I actually was trying to convince Flyfloatr to build a couple of "pirate" boats so we could have a little cannon war on our lake but apparently he's more concerned about the baby he and his wife have on the way than boating....what a sap!
I did decide to just stick with 16.5v for now on my FT instead of adding in the additional 3.3v pack to get to 19.8v. There just isn't enough space in the bilge for another 2cel pack plus the A123 cells are super heavy and I'm loosing whatever freeboard I have left when I stick this fourth pack in.
If I could find someone willing to trade out a nice set of lipo's for my A123 packs I might consider it.
