Thanks epa4wd - I am not sure about your "spctrum" question.

Its just that I've heard some people saying that they had probelms with the signal with spektrum radios in boats. Not sure why. I guess I will find out, that is what I'll be using.

Maybe if there was some carbon in the boats...

2.4GHz radio waves can't go through carbon very well.

Hi Guys,

I have just purchased one of these prince 25" mono's and have done a lot of reading on this hull and it sounds like a very good design....

My Initial set-up will be:

Ammo 2300kv motor
X-power 100amp ESC
Turnigy 3amp BEC
4s lipo (2 x 2s 4800mah 25c lipo's)
Octura x637 prop as a starting point....
And i will also convert it to a 3/16" prop shaft with a .130 cable just because i want to use standard equipment!

The motor will be water cooled do you guys think this set-up will run cool enough?

The only thing I might replace is the 100A ESC - I toasted one of those XPowerESC on my MaxAmp 4 cells system - Offshore did replace it however (Super Store) - but I did switch over to a Jetti Navy 125 from Dee at Etti (Great Wire Drives) and its runs nice and cool with the MaxAmp batteries.

crazynick
That's basically the setup that I run. Exept for the ESC. I've switched over to the Himodel 200A ESC. It barely get's above tepid.

A lot of people use the Opto version, but I prefer the BEC version.
As Steve441 suggests, you would be better off with more than a 100Amp ESC. On startup the Ammo can draw more than 100Amps.
The Ammo does tend to run a bit warm so watch the temps on the first few runs. Make sure the watercooling system is working efficiently.
It all works fine in my little boat. But we only do 5 lap races.
Cheers.
Paul.

Thanks for the input guys...

Unfortunately i already have the ESC so i will run it and see how i go!!

If it does indeed go poof i will have to try something more stout....

Paul have you logged the current draw data during a run? If so what was the average constant current draw and what was the peak?

Sorry man. I don't have a logger. I've seen it on a club members setup. About 60A in the straights. Can't remember the start current, but it was big. It wasn't an Ammo but they are all pretty much the same in this respect.
Any motor can draw anything up to double their running current on startup. Sometimes more.
I have no problem running this setup with the stock Aquacraft 45A ESC But we all know that it handles more than 45A if cooled properly.
I suggest you pull the trigger slowly on startup to limit the inrush current. Don't just stomp on the juice. I take about 3-4 seconds to go from zero to full noise when I take off.
Cheers.
Paul.

I also think using the "soft start" feature will help stop the current spiking too high on start-up...

If the system does indeed end up pulling around 60A continuous this ESC should be Ok..

Well I took you advice guys and ended up getting a CC Hydra 120 ESC for this thing....

I finally got the chance to run this thing yesterday and when i put it in the water the transom sank right under and i thought i may have gone a bit to heavy with the batteries....

I slowly cruised it up onto the plane and gave it some throttle..........This hull rocks!! It handles very well with the stock hardware and no tabs or turn fins even with all that weight in there!

I checked the temps very often and there was no need to even break out the temp gun as it ran very cool......But I only did short runs so i will have to do some more testing to see what sort of run time i can get from it....

As a side note when i received the boat from R2 Hobbies they are now being shipped with a water cooled motor mount with a 16mm spacing and there is no way to fit a 540 sized motor in there I had to rip out the all the stringers and mounts and make a custom motor mount to suit my Ammo and while i was in there i took the chance to reinforce the wooden parts with epoxy and i also coated them in a poly-urethane sealer....

I will post up some pics of this beast soon!

Not sure who said that but it is incorrect! The NEW 60A ESC from Aquacraft, being used in the new UL-1 Hydro is set up for lipos, but not the old SV27 ESC. You have to add a separate device to give a cutoff voltage of 3V per cell. If you don't run the batts down too far, you can get by without the add-on but if you do discharge below 3V per cell, you will damage your batteries. You can get the "Lipo Shield" device for $22 or something like that. Available from several places. Just Google "lipo Shield".

ORIGINAL: ozzie-crawl

i was under the impression you couldnt run lipos on sv27 esc because no support with cut of but found a thread the other day were aquacraft say that the sv27 esc is auto detect for lipos

I would like to see the pictures to compare to the set-up I put together shown earlier. Steve

j.m. you were spot on this thing does FLY and so far seems to run nice and cool which im very happy with!

steve441 I will try to get some pics of my set up this weekend if time permits...

I have a question for 785boats and every one else for that matter so here goes.......

My boat is set-up very much the same as 785boats "Bullet proof" and i'm running a 285 gram 2s lipo on each side of the boat resulting in approx 30% center of gravity...

Now the first time i ran the boat the water was very smooth and the boat was very stable right up to full speed....

I ran it again yesterday and the water was a little rough but not to bad and i could some times get a full speed pass but quite often if it hit a rough patch at full noise the hull would rock violently side to side like it had speed wobbles.....It would still hold a straight line but would be bouncing from one chine to the other which is quite disconcerting at 40+ MPH!!

What causes this problem? At first I thought it was all the weight from the batts in the side by the drive line but the set-up looks the same as 785boats set-up?

Race water can get quite churned up and i don't want it to happen every time i hit the wake of another race boat!

Thanks.

Quite simply, move the CG forward. Try 33%-35%.
