Dremel worked great and I tinned the end to avoid the unravelling of the flex cable issue. Gonna bend the tube and do some initial fitting. I will post a pic to see if I got it right - Steve

Hi Phil.
Good to see you've got it running with the new motor.
Why can't you hold the throttle for very long. Does it become unstable or are you running out of water?

I went to put the propeller on today and noticed that it does not fit onto the drive dog. The propeller says TFL and I think the number is 435. The slots on the propeller that fit onto the drive dog are too small. What's the deal???[>:]

I will get a coffee and begin reading again thank you. [X(] You may tell me to read again on this one, but what is the easiest way to bend the copper tubing for the flex shaft? I can't find my tube bender.

Heat it up, let it cool, stick the flex shaft in it & gently bend to the required shape. Alternatively tape one end fill it with salt & compact it in by tapping it on a table, tape the other end & gently bend it.

Here you go!
Find a close coil spring, like the springs used in campervan curtains.
You don't want a thin wired spring, get one that has thick wire and tight windings. (it helps to put some heatshrink tube over the spring, for easy removal later).
You need one thats a snug fit, but not tight.
Insert the spring into the tube and bend it by hand around something round, like a "beer bottle"
or something simillar.
After you have the right bend, remove the spring.

Hope this helps, Brett.

Um...

I hope your joking about that spring idea... So someones going to take a large wire spring, shove it in brass tubing thats straight?
lol
Give it a try and let me know how that works for you!
I like the salt Idea. I will be using that since salt it CHEAP.

No joke Basstronics,
I have used that method many times and it works well, just make sure it's a retention spring, not a compression spring!
What the spring does is keeps the tube round when it's bent. All tubes want to flatten out when they are bent and the spring stops that happening!
Cheers, Brett.

Hi Basstronics. Down under here in OZ, plumbers use the spring method all the time. Heck you can even buy a kit with various size springs to all diam tube, got one in the workshop, about $15.00
Some do say that OZ leads the world with knowledge

I went today and bought a spring used to keep a wooden screen door shut. I put the tube in the spring and it worked awesome. It bent my tube as needed and didn't crimp it a bit.
If my boat came with a 4mm flex shaft, what is the size of the motor shaft? I went to put on my Flex collet tonight and it appears to big. There is a lot of lay and when I tighten the set screw, it throws it off center. When I spin the motor, I can see that the collet is not centered and will throw one heck of a vibration.

h2oskier it looks like you have a 5mm collet , most of the bigger motors have a 5mm shaft you will need that when you upgrade your motor ,

Hey Bass.
As an electrician ( also down here in Oz HSVXU6 ) we use a bending spring to bend PVC electrical conduits. Sizes 16mm, 20mm, 25mm & 32mm.
Our springs are inserted inside the conduit unlike the plumbers springs which are generaly over the outside of the pipe. The spring thing works large or small.
Cheers.
