I'm slowly getting close to finishing the plug for the cowl.
It still needs some more putty and sanding, then another layer of primer.

beautiful Norbique!
you are an inspiration.
after you send me the plans, i start to build my cat. it's my first cat and it's going well.
how about the motors for the cat ? feigao?
i'm thinking in two kb45 for my cat, with all the modifications that i already saw in the forum. holes in the back, etc..etc.. what you think?
best regards and congratulations for the build
Juan
(bad english, sorry)

I finished sanding the canopy and laid a layer of glass on it. A friend named it cockroach canopy because it somewhat resembles a cockroach, maybe he's right, I don't mind. the shape is about OK. It will look a little different once in place on the hatch.

How on earth were you able to lay a glass layer on that foam withut it melting/disovling on you? Ive tried a few different things, and everytime, the foam just disolves away. Nice work!

Use epoxy resin instead of polyester resin, or buy a foam designed to be used with polyester resin from your resin supplier.

I'm not sure if you have them in the states, but FGI (Fibreglass International) is a great supplier who I use here in Australia.

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Hi guys, excuse me for I neglected the thread a bit lately. [sm=sleeping.gif] The Arneson drives are a huge expense. I am thinking on manufacturing my own.
The real reason for my pause in the cat build is my tunnel build. I though that would be cheaper, only one motor, one ESC, one battery, but I forgot that I have to buy the lower unit which costs a lot. either way, I'm working on the tunnel currently, but I didn't forget the cat either.
Juan, PM me you email address where I can send you the plans, and let me know the dimension you want the plans, hull length for example.
colosus, thanks for the picture it is really motivating, and thanks for the link and the nice compliments as well!
tc4 drft, yes I used laminating epoxy (very slow cure) to put the FG on the foam.
fmarcelo, I will scale up the plans to the size you requested and send it to the email address you provided. please be patient.

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Hello,
I am making a FE rigger, and i was wondering why you put foam in your boat? How does that help flotation and what if i dont leave that space empty?
Minden segítséget elöre is köszönök!
All help isappreciated!

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Hi atcom, check your PM.
I was thinking about putting foam into the hull, people do that in order to help floatation if the boat is crached. The foam doesn't allow water to fill up all the space in the hull, thus saving it from sinking. At the end I didn't put foam in the hull. I decided I'd use air filled nylon bags, the ones that are put in boxes at the post. I can make a photo if you're interested. Your rigger looks good, what motor, ESC, batts are you using?

My rigger is 90cm long, i use a 8T hurricane brushless set, and a hardcase 2s, 5000mah lipo from hk. Your boat looks amazing! My next project isdefinitely going to be a catamaran. I actually constructed my boat from fiberglass because the boats made from balsa and ply lookterribly hard to build! Did you have any detailed cad plans?

Hi Norbert!
This thing should fly! Glad to see you have the 1400kv model as I have found the 1100KV really needs 8s to light it up... otherwise you have to prop the hell out of it.
Im going to order the 1400kv one for my sprintcat shortly.
Cheers
Matt

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Back to business, I ordered some water-cooled motor mounts for the big outrunners. The ones designed for the 540 size motors fit, but barely.
I'll have to enlarge he holes and slots for the motor screws. I took some mock-up photos, you can see the motor barely fits inside the motor mount. But it does!

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Thanks Cornel,
I'm doing my best to finish the cat by next spring. It's a slow process, but I'm not in a hurry. It's a hobby after all.
I just did a small spin up test with the motor mounted inside the motor mount. This beast has such a "strong" start up, I'm afraid it will rip the bottom of the hull apart
It has very strong magnets, but once it's running it's very smooth and creates so powerful wind, that it sounds almost like a turbine! Amazing motor for the price!
