Default I need some RC boaters guidence

Hey everyone

Well I have had every form of RC out their surface, helis, planes, 1/4 scale gas. Been into it FOREVER LOL But.. I have never had a boat. ( main reason no way to retreive it if it quits or upsets) But plan on getting a cheapy boat as a retrival boat. Thoughts on that???

Well now the biggie. What to go with? I would love gas (not nitro) but for now that is out of my price range.
I want some thing I can use Lipos in
I want fast (who doesn't)
I want good run times
I want it dependable

I have a bunch of 3S 11.1V 1550 thru 2200mah lipo batteries I run in my planes.
Is their a boat out their I could utilize those or are they not big enough?

I like the looks of the catamarans and the hydros.

I will be buying two boats, one for me and one for my father.

So I am looking for ideas. I do not want to kill the bank, but do not want to have to upgrade motors, and ESC's to get speed, and keep entertained.

Thanks
George

Try these guys:

The batteries you have would be too small for a larger boat.  You would more than likely ruin your lipos on the first run if you have a 25" or longer boat.

Retrieval: I haven't had a lot of success with retriever boats. A lead weight with a bobber on a fishing pole provides terrific range. Way better than throwing any tennis ball. Retrieval hook on the deck is suggested.

I have three models from mini cat. Can't say that they run stable or long. The starship rigger was a blast and fast. The mini vee just never ran well and I quit trying. They seem pricey to me.

I would say that if you're spending $300+ per boat, don't paint yourself in a corner trying to reuse your $20 batteries. Hobbyking sells big 5000 mAh lipos for about $20 that puts you into a whole bunch of good choices for boats. You can pick up a popular SuperVee 27 used or new pretty affordably. They handle the chop pretty well. If you want a hydro be careful, they require pretty smooth water. The UL-1 is runs 40MPH all the time. 7ish minute runs using 4 lipo cells at 5000 mah. Boats use a ton of current per minute compared to planes. I melted deans connectors before switching to bullets. I have a Black jack 26 that is in the same category but one thing I believe is that the steerable outdrive (as opposed to a rudder) has a tendency to push the boat over. The shockwave 26B is ABS plastic and a little more affordable yet still has good components.

Mine use between 100 and 200 mAh per minute. I usually run about 6-8 mins so that I don't over heat the batteries.
1800 mAh 3S lipo.

Well I won't be buying any boats until this spring. I am trying to get it narrowed down by then

I like the looks of the catermerans. I do not want to go nuts money wise, but I do want fast and fun.

I thought the mni cats would be the way to go, but.... maybe not....????

I will keep looking.

Thanks
George
