Which 30

I have an Aquacraft UL-1 and am looking for a hull (30" hydro range) that handles better at higher speeds and wont break the bank. Obviously it would be great if I could move the hardware from the UL-1 to the new hull as well. I've looked at the Whiplash kit, the Phil Thomas hulls and the Insane FE30. Does anyone have any experience with any of these specially compared to the UL-1. Any other hull recommendations welcomed as well. All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Right now, nothing better! [:-]
With UL-1 power, some are seeing 60mph and rock solid in the turns!
I would love one with a CC 1520 motor on 5s, and 6s would be sick :D
or even a CC 1512 on 4s would be sweet!
amazing hulls, and I've yet to see or hear one bad thing with them

If both the Insane FE 30 and JAE 21 FE were to both run UL-1 systems in a race, the JAE would SMOKE THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of that FE 30 thingy...LMAO!

Your point being? Kinda like saying it's brighter at noon than it is at midnight.....ROFLMAO.

The OP asked about three sport hulls, not a rigger. I'm sure he knows very well that lighter riggers are faster than full bodied hydros - again so what? Not everybody is obsessed with just speed, some more mature folks think about scale appearance, available race classes in their area, and the fact that they have nothing to prove to anyone.

That said, I'd like to see anyone getting 60 mph out of the UL-1 motor/ESC in an FE-30. I know what mine will do, as well as some of the other top racers running them, and 60 mph just ain't there for an oval boat. It is done in the JAE-21, but then we weren't talking about that.....

This is correct ... I'm just interested in a sport/hydro hull for all the reasons mentioned. Never really looked a rigger ... maybe some day when I'm just wanting to go really, really fast. :)

Ha, Ha! Just havin' fun busting stones man...chill out...sheesh! I don't even care about speeds right now...I just want competetive and consistant boats to run, so be easy on me now... My Jae 21 FE will only get to about the mid 50's with the UL-1 setup anyways!!

I do understand that the thread was about Sport Hydros, and that's cool bro...just wanted to let the guy know that there is something else out there that he might be interested in.

I would like to get a sport 20 to run in my Dist., but there is not a class for it right now. I do like the Insane FE 30, but also like the looks of the PT Hydro.

sounds like you don't have your FE30 setup right or have one at all [:-]
I was at the FE Nationals this year and was blown away by the way the FE30 ran in race water
you say your only getting mid 50s out of your JAE and again you can setup a FE30 to run 60mph with UL-1 power ;)
heck even a stock setup UL-1 can run 50's
the FE30 will run in race water that will dock the JAE
I was going to get a JAE until I saw the FE30 run

Oh and a little side note, the top racers were at the FE Nationals in Greeley Colorado running the FE30s

RE: Which 30

Another fact with the FE30 is it can race in chop made by gas boats..
Very stable hull!

RE: Which 30

I have a little question, i have a 36" hydro (no namer, from local boat shop) it was meant for a 6.5cc glow power , i am going to go with brushless, will this setup be enough for this length of hull? Leopard 1700Kv 4074 , 40c 5000Mah 6s lipo, ETTi150 amp ESc ?
Or should i have gone with the 5692 leopard for this hull ? Am thinking on getting a Blazer hull for the 4074 anyway just need a little input please.

Thankyou all.
Mick

RE: Which 30

srt10, Where do you get your info bro? A 60 MPH UL1 powered FE30? The FE30 can run in water that would park a JAE? 50+mph heat racing stock UL1? You may be able to get a stock UL1 over 50 playing at the pond by yourself, but the last one I saw heat racing with riggers ended up in two pieces.

I saw the video of the FE30 running with the gassers. It's an awesome hull and she held her own, but if memory serves me the boat did not have an uneventfull heat as the race water eventually got to her.

All I have to say is the 2010 FE Nationals were a kick in the pants ;)
The FE30 rocked!
The FE30 is about as close as you can get to a Rigger and still be raced as a Hydro
and the race water with the gassers did not get the FE30
try that with any other 30" Rigger or Hyro.. not going to happen :D

RE: Which 30

I've decided on the FE 30 ... thanks for all the great input ... tough choice between the Insane FE 30 and the PT SS21. Is there a suggested setup sheet for the Insane FE30; ie. specs on exactly where to position the major components (motor, servo, battaries, ESC) to obtain optimal balance and speed? Or if not, can any of you guys who have been running the Insain FE 30 make recommendations on the placements of the components? As always, all input is greatly appreciated

Great choice bro! ;)
there are a couple nice builds over at OSE, and I know the guys will chime in over there on your thread about setups

The FE-30 comes with a very comprehensive set-up sheet for hardware placement and tuning tips.
Probably the best handling hydro in its class. JMHO

{Referring to the FE-30} Right now, nothing better! With UL-1 power, some are seeing 60mph and rock solid in the turns!
Not much reality in the above post. With UL-1 power we are getting low/mid-50s pulling 90+ amps. In not-too-rough water the stock turn fins hooks up pretty well but in rougher race water the boat needs more fin. But I love mine.

I was torn between the Whip, PT Stealth 21 and the FE-30, but the Whip is a wood kit, the Stealth requires a lot of time finishing the hull, while the FE-30 just needs the stuff installed. I've raced Whips with my FE-30 and the winner will be the better driver with the better setup. I think that all three hulls are outstanding racers and sport boats.

WRONG....
don't tell someone they are lying when you don't get what others are getting out of their FE30 boats
you may need more tunning but don't tell others they cannot if you can't [:-]
these hulls are next to a rigger in design and are rock solid in the turns during a race

heck even a UL-1 with the proper setup on 4s has gone 60mph!
there is a video on Aquacraft showing their UL-1 making a 60mph+ run on 4s

RE: Which 30

I didn't say anyone was lying, just that the post was not the reality for this hull. The guys who helped develop this boat in LA are my friends (Mark and Tony) and I've worked with them testing/setting up this hydro. These are the experts on this boat - not you. None of us have gotten better than 54/55 mph on UL-1 setups with any props tried for oval setups. Even then we are pulling 90 amps, close to the limit for the motor and ESC. To get 60 mph would mean an amp draw well over 100 amps, not suitable for the motor and ESC if anyone wants them to last for more than one heat. A few riggers can get to 60 mph with the UL-1 setup, but the FE-30 is not quite a rigger.

BTW I pitted next to Brian when he made those SAW passes on your video, and that setup really heated up his motor and ESC after just two passes. Hardly a practical setup, which Brian freely admitted in numerous posts. A SAW setup does not use a turn fin, so it obviously cannot be "rock solid" in the turns.

Why don't you get one and try it instead of just talking about it? ;)

Interesting because I've seen one do just as I've said
I'm not talking about a SAW run, I'm talking about a Race setup
so these hulls are rock solid in the turns! [:-]

I've seen it with my own two eyes..
and yes these FE30 hulls are very close to being a rigger but still called a Hydro
they built them this way to be as fast as possible

no one needs to be an expert to see something with their own two eyes [:-]
and look around and you will find a few who have gotten 60mph with a UL-1
not you I know, but others have... Funny, they to are not experts ;)

You haven't said who did it, where it was done, or how the speed was determined. I named the guys who developed the setups. I've known the manufacturer for a decade and know how he designs his hydros. I own one, race one, and understand it's strengths and weaknesses better than you seem to. But you "saw" one.....

Why don't you buy one and try it instead of just talking about it? Help us all and show us how it's done for goodness sakes. I have read no claims for speeds of 60 mph or more from anyone else. Until someone who owns one with proof steps forward it's just typical Internet talk. Plenty talk - but few walk.... [sm=biggrin.gif]

its ok man, not everyone knows everything
it does not matter who we think we know
and knocking on someone because you know someone really is a shame
and putting people down because of this, well?
we all don't need to have proof to believe something, do we?

seeing this FE30 ripp at 60mph on a UL-1 motor was simply awesome!
and going through the turns of what look like full tilt ;)
