Guys I want to a bad a$$ cat on lipo...

Ive never owned a rc boat...I like the Cat boats and was wondering..I have about 500 to play with (batts and radio system not included) and want a bad ass fast reliable boat.. If there is a boat RTR that would be good too..Like I said..I dont know anything about boats but Ive been in rc for 15 years..Planes helis and rc cars..I am inclined enough to build any boat as far as mechanic wise....I just want to know what direction I need to go..What is the best boat rtr or kit to go with? Links would be nice...
Thanks guys!
Happy New Year

RE: Guys I want to a bad a$$ cat on lipo...

My favortie cat that Iown is my Gen 1 skunkworks cat. Cost aroundyour limit and needed built, butthe only way Iknow how to get ahold of Scotty from skunkworks is over on the OSE forums whenever he gets hull he posted them for sale. Plus since you never owned a boat you should prob start rtr (JMHO). For RTR best cat on the market is the Miss Geico from Proboat. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...+Catamaran+RTR or http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=PRB4100

ifyou do want to build HORhulls are very popularhttp://kintecracing.com/Hulls.htmlorhttp://cgi.ebay.com/32-fibreglass-ca...item45ef60d0b0. And minus batts/radio you could get it running around that cost. And fightercat57 from OSE sells hulls with hardware package dealshttp://fightercatracing.com/

What about the traxxas spartan?

You just confused me bud, you said you wanted a cat. Do you want a catamaran or mono or just any RTR you may like?

Diesel is right Dirt Hawg. The boats he suggested per your request are Cattamarans. The Traxxas Spartan is a Deep Vee mono hull. Which do you prefer? There are also Hydroplanes and Riggersout there as well. Four different type of hull designs to suit whatever it is you want to get out of R/C boating.

If you are starting out, go with a V mono hull or Catamaran.  They are the easiest to setup and have fun with.  The Mono is easier then the cat.<div>
</div><div>I would go with a RTR, as they are somewhat setup out of the box.  That way you can get wet, and start to learn how they handle, and try out different settings before going to a more complicated boat.</div>

Thanks guys...Sorry I didnt mean to confuse you all..I like the v hulls but I like the Cat better..Like you said, Im looking for a good boat out of the box to achieve 45-50mph runs..I cant believe how the 6cell setups sound on the water..Thats crazy!!! And thats what I want..So if I get the Miss Geico Cat, are speeds like this possible with stock esc- motor combo?

If you have never ran FE before, 40mph will be fast! ;)

i have decided to get the MG..My LHS has one in stock..Now...What are any mods if any need to be done? Also what lipo packs would you recommend? What prop would be recommended?

RE: Guys I want to a bad a$$ cat on lipo...

Nice choice, my best recorded speed so far with the MG is 44.4 on the m445 with 5s lipo 5000 mah 20-30 c. With a 1800 kv motor and 5s lipo i think you would easily be in the 45-50 mph range. 40 will seem fast for your first time though, i know it did with my sv and i don't think i was even hitting 40 my first or most of my outings. Check out the Miss Geico thread. I ran a 4s 2p set up today which was sweet and i had over 8 min of wot run time before one of the bullets on the motor de-soldered. I tried a 1800kv motor from hobbyking and i'm pretty sure it self destructed, the outside of the motor seems to have come loose from the can.

RE: Guys I want to a bad a$$ cat on lipo...

you'll be fine. My first was a SV27 and then I built a cat. I don't think they are any harder to set up and or drive than a V hull. Just watch the head winds. :)

RE: Guys I want to a bad a$$ cat on lipo...

Good choice, I think you will be happy. I was hitting 45+ stock on 5s everytime. On 4s high 30s. You should not need to do any mods. Some guys are doing the rudder mod. It helps eliminate the bounce this hull gets. I found by adjusting the cg more aft then what the stock battery mounts allow and adjusting the strut the bounce can be eliminated without any mods. For a prop I would say a Grim 42x55, Octura m445. On the m445 watch your temps. Good runtime is about 5 minutes although I time my runs between 3-5 minutes. Things you can do is start reading the manual and herehttp://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...splay.php?f=49I have had good luck and like with these liposhttp://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10305their are some things you can do to make your setup more reliable. One thing is to change the motor/esc connectors over to something heavier. I use 5.5mm bulletshttp://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=2087also change thedeans connectors out with something more suited for FE boats. I use the same 5.5mm bullets for my esc power wires as well, but it can be easy to short something out if not paying attention. For someone new to boat I would say EC5's. They are easy to use like the deans but can handle more amperage http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=9194happy boating!

What about the octura x642 prop?

Diesel6401 01-04-2011 08:11 PM

RE: Guys I want to a bad a$$ cat on lipo...

I used that prop in my video, the reason I chose that prop is I know the Proboat Blackjack LOVED that prop and the Miss Geico has the same motor/esc as the BJ plus the x642 is a nice all around prop, but I don't think the MG likes the pitch the x642 has, I think the 42x55 with the less pitch the mg likes a little better. A octura x442 would work nicely as well. The m445 is just a wicked prop! But to be honest one of my favorite props I own is my Grim 42x55. It has really worked nice on a lot of different hulls for me. But as you can tell in the video a x642 WILL work. I just think the others maybe slightly better choices for this hull, hopefully this helps!
