Help with motor selection.

Hello chaps.

I am working on a plastic kit RC conversions and am looking for a triple motor set-up (scale).

I have a spare brushed ESC that will more than cope with running triple motors so i want to go down the brushed route.

My issue is what output should i go for. Scale performance suggests i need approximately 1W per motor.

Most motors are 6v at this size but i want to run 2s Lipo. Are they safe to run at 7.6v?

Cheers for your shared knowledge. I hope to return the favour one day ;)
Not my area of expertise but you could limit the throttle high point to limit the voltage the motors see- however I would risk it as its not a huge increase and 4 fully charged nicds would exceed this so the motors must have a tolerance to accomodate this.

Are you sure 1w x3 is what you need? That is tiny! Surely not?! 100w per lb is more realistic unless you have crazy low wing loading?

All the best

:)

Its a boat. I had to check that i hadnt put this in the wrong section.

Like i say i am after scale power but mis-calculated my needs. Its actually 4W per motor.

Calculations as follows.

scale Hp = ( Real world total HP) / (scale ^3)

0.016Hp = 6000 / (72^3)

Convert Hp to W and it comes in at 12W combined. So 4W per motor
Hello Richdb77

I suggest you look for something like a Mabuchi 280 motor if you have room for 3 of them.

I have attached a link of an example that would suit your requirements - designed to run on 7.2-8.4v and around 4-5w:

Try your favourite UK-based search engines for something local if you can!
