Question to the world of RC boat enthusiasts!!!! All advice appreciated!
 

Hello RCuniverse and the collective brains within- I need some advice on what is possible in the world of RC boating and so I have some to the source.

I am looking to a use a remote controlled boat as a remote delivery vessel for a new wildlife research technique. This hasn't been done in this way before but we are trying to think outside the box. What I am looking for is a remote controlled boat that is silent/ as quiet as possible both above and below the water so that I do not scare the animals that I am approaching. I assume that electric is the way to go but even whether an airboat or a underwater propulsion method would be quieter I need your advice on.

While quietness is the #1 priority, other beneficial attributes would be self-righting should it be flipped over and as everything in life, my project has finite resources so we don't need to spend more money that necessary on a tool that could be damaged. The payload that it is ferrying is relatively small (3.5 ounces/100g) so I could imagine a boat under 12" possibly working.

Basically I am looking for any advice to guide my search: is it possible to buy silent RC boats? is there a type I should be looking into? is there particular brands or models that people on here feel would fit my bill? In the initial plan I'm not planning to build my own but if there was a solid reason for doing so then I am open to suggestions. What would you guys do if you needed a silent/ quiet boat?

What you are looking for is certainly possible. Electric with underwater prop is the way to go if you want quiet - air props make too much noise. If you are interested in approaching wildlife, consider an R/C duck decoy. I built an R/C Canada goose years ago and was able to approach geese on the water pretty close. Hi,
I was wondering how your project worked out and how you ended up putting it together. I have never built an RC vehicle and am just at the beginning point.
I would like to add a silent motor to a model cruiser and have no Idea where to begin.
