I've converted this boat for a friend, His first battery went fine, but the ESC went bye bye for the second pack

Why did the esc go? It seemed to be running fine and would this ESC be better?

I would suggest a SwordFish 200 or 220 esc from Offshore electrics.

If you could weigh the hull & hardware only I can tell you why your esc went bad, most likely too heavy. You might be better off with a 6S setup in that boat using a tp pOWER 4050 motor in the 1300Kv range.

Since you have the 2200kv motor, why not try the SF200-220 esc with it first. What prop did you use to fry the 120 esc??

I would use a 442 prop to start and maybe a x642 also but amp draw maybe high and not very long run times. A boat can be too heavy even though it's only 31" long.
My Phantom Cat by promise hobby is only 29" long but empty it weighs 3.3 pounds!!!! It needs a lot of power on 4S but, it's more efficient on 6S.

The boat weighs 6 lb 7oz. The prop is a copper beryllium Prather 215. "Has a diameter of 1.6" (40.6mm) and a pitch of 1.56 total 2.5"

Already ordered a Turnigy 180 from HK 3 days ago. They gave an in store credit for the failed ESC.

I think I'll hook up my watt meter next time and see what it pulls at 1/4 throttle, 1/2 throttle ETC...

There is really no room for 6 cells unless I move the batteries to the sides and use two 3 cells.

More volts with the same prop would reduce the amp draw?

My guess is the motor is amp hungary. Lower your kv down to 880 on 6S.

What motor? What prop? What's it weigh?

I believe in the video beginning he said he is running a Neu 1521 1.5D on 4S2P and a Graupner Carbon 51mm 2 blade prop and T180 esc.

Ah. I had the volume really low last night as not to wake the wife. I also see that there is a blurry 3 seconds of spec in the very beginning. All really expensive stuff. I know my buddy won't want to put that $ amount into a weekender fun boat, but he does want it to be reliable. I do have the t180 on the way.

1521 1.5D motor....What KV? stock 1860kv or the competition wind: 2900kv or 3100kv?

Weight is immaterial because it is what it is I guess, It's hard to put a boat on a diet to lose pounds. Ounces maybe, not pounds.

I still have that question about amp draw: Add a cell (to 6 cell) with the same prop would reduce the amp draw? Drop a cell and prop up a bit reduces amp draw? Remember, you are conversing with an extreme NOOB here. What cheaper solutions are we looking at?

Doby runs a 1860kv 1521 1.5D, 51mm prop, 4S2P.

If you go to 6S with a T180 this motor runs very nicely: MOTOR and you can start with a Octura X442 -M445 or Carbon 42mm -45mm 1.4pitch props.

What cells exactly do you have as it makes a pretty big difference. The higher the C rating the better for boats because boats are the hardest on electronics of any RC model type.

Amp draw: Bigger prop more amps no matter what voltage you run. Smaller prop more run time, larger prop more speed and amps but, shorter run time. Setup is important also to avoid excess amp draw. Pond time, test for 1 minute, check, test again, check, repeat, repeat...

Lastly, the only Sticky thread in the FE electric boat section is extremely helpful for basic setups with props, batteries, motors, esc's, and boat sizes etc. Please take some spare time to check it out, you'll be glad you did.
