Motor turns?

What motor, turn and wind to you guys run in your boats, and how big are your hulls?

I run allot of brushed powered boats & BL powered boats, for brushed I run a 12 turn double in a BBY war zone 26" on 7 cells, makes for a great fun runner.I run a 13 turn double in a Canard hydroplane on 7 cells 28",makes for great speeds & fun.I run a 16 turn triple in a Crackerbox 24",on 6 cells, makes for great speed.I run a 19 turn single in a MRP mono 25" on 6 cells & makes for fun running.I run a graupner 480 on 8 cells in a micro hydroplane 15",& makes for allot of speed & fun.I also run a mega brushless 400 2 turn in a scratchbuilt 15" rigger on 8 cells & makes for rediculous speed.I also run a hacker b50 14XL on 24 cells in a 36" catamarn & makes for fast speeds & racing configuration.Cheers!

Im going to run a Havok 21x 2 in my geared Sea commander on 6 cells, but I'm afraid it will be too slow for me....?

It really depends on how fast you want to go....Gearation systems in a way can slow the boat down aswell...tough call,If you can explain the hull & current set up or post pics it would make it easier to understand & give advice...Cheers!.

Red Rocket,

You can try adding 1 or 2 more cells to your battery pack to increase your boat's speed. I'm using a inexpensive "geared boat" (1:2) ratio. Geared boats usually have long runtimes & have a low amp draw (depending on the motor) on the battery pack.

Motor: RS 550 "Titan" 14.4 Volt 23 turn, OR RS 550 14.4 volt 22 turn.
Hull: 20.5" shallow Vee hull, ABS plastic, sub surface drive prop.

Motor: RS 540 "Stinger" 8.4 Volt 20 turn
Hull: 27" hydro hull (Kyosho Wave Master). Outboard motor/steering with surface piercing prop.

$ubzero,

Traxxas "Titan" 14.4 Volt motor, 23 turn single. This is the same type motor(s) used on the Traxxas E-Maxx trucks. The 20" hull is a so-so RS (Radio Shack) shallow vee hull.
I'm still experimenting with cheap hulls that I can find. I run this boat on 8 sub C cells or 9.6Volts. Stock power was 6 sub C cells or 7.2 Volts.
Boat is still slow by racing standards . Got a top speed of only 13.9 MPH using a
Garmin etrex GPS I taped on top of the boats hull. This is a little better that the 5.8 MPH stock speed of the boat.

The motor you see on the left was the RS 540SH, 6 Volt, 23 turn single motor that was originally used on that boat. The Motor on the right is the "monster" Traxxas Titan 14.4 Volts, 23 turn single motor.

RE: Motor turns?

gulfstream, yes i am familiar with the motors....due to the 14.4 V rating you would have to run 12 cells thru it in order to run it at its max efficency.Idealy if you can come across a 540 16
turn & run it on 6-7 cells your speeds will increase and will put you into the 20s......By the way
I notice you are in vancouver,Have you been to Central park (burnaby) on sundays???,we run boats there & race there...You should stop by...Cheers!.

$ubzero,

Thanks for the invitation!:) I usually run my boats in the North Vancouver area, there are several isolated ponds there. Just about perfect for running speed tests.
I'll drop by & check out your pond probably next Sunday.
About the 14 volt motor, yes you are right about that. I'm still undecided if I should add more cells into my 20" hull or install the Speed 600 BB motor using the same 8 sub-C cells that I'm currently using.
My shallow vee hull's drive system in inefficient due to the sub-surface prop & reduction gear (1:2) drive system.
