Zig Zag - DIVE!!!

I've got a Zig Zag Racer I'm using for a retrevial boat. I bought it new and it ran good. Now for some reason, if you give it full throttle, the nose dives into the water!! [>:][>:] Also, the radiobox keeps getting swamped with water![>:][>:] I've had it apart numerous times, and siliconed the bageeziz otta it! But it still get's wet![>:] Whats up with this? And how to fix?? Brian

I've had 2 Zig Zags and I have found them to be junky. They never seem to work correctly for very long. I haven't been able to get them to run nicely and I've given up on them. If you want to keep the water out the you have to tape the top on every time you run the boat.

I used to have one that I would run in the creek all the time. I would take it up rapids and sometimes it would it would become completely submerged but it still worked. Also I bounced it off all kinds of rocks and nothing broke. It would be boring in a large body of water but I dont know of anything else that could take on rocks and rapids and also turn around in a creek only a few feet wide. I gave it away a couple of months ago because the creek is drying up in the summer but they do have a zig zag 2:D

I saw a video of that! I take it that was yours. I guess I've had bad luck with the Zig Zags.

Hello I am new to Rc boating and my intro into the hobby is a zig zag 2 and it seems to be very harty as well as very fun even in a large cove. The first time out a jerk ran over it with a jet ski. It poped right back up and I was abe to drive it home and there was nothing wrong with it other than a crack in the top cover.

I bought one also to use as a retrieve boat. I added a small Teacup hook to the rear so that I can easily attach a line and ball to it. I haven't had any problems with it nosing over, which it shouldn't do considering that normally the angle of the prop shouldn't allow this to happen. The only thing that I can think of is that somehow it has become nose heavy. One way to check for that is to add some weight to the transom area to see if that helps.

My first thought would be to see if anything has shifted forward in the hull (not having one, I've no idea if thats even possible. Take it for what it's worth.)

Towing.
'Where' the tow hook is attached makes a big difference! If it's forward of the prop/rudder the 'tow' tends to pull the towing boat in the direction of any turns (over steering). If it's aft of the prop/rudder, the opposite is true (under steering). Pick the 'type' of 'steering' you are most comfortable with (if that makes sense?). If you use the 'string and ball' method of 'catching' a tow, use a line that floats!
Go here; www.vac-u-boat.com
Phil has a section on towing that's very informative.

OK, HERE'S THE LATEST! The Zig Zag "IS" a childs toy! It was not designed to be used the way I was using it. I had a small "eye bolt" screwed into a plastic reinforcement plate screwed onto the transom. Then I had a casting reel, bolted onto the transmitter, with 20lb firewire and a clevis that clipped onto the boat. Pulling in my F-41 Stryker, the lil goober would be almost submerged till I got it back to shore. I finally gave up drying the radio box out, and stuffed the Zig in a corner!![:@] I went to EBAY, and for $17.11 I got a replacement!;) Here it is!! Brian
