Winter boating

Well, it has been in the 30's and high 20's this week here in Chicagoland. Thinking of running the electric boat one last time this weekend. I would like to test it out(due to a mishap last weekend) to make sure everything works properly. So if it does not I have all winter to fix it.

My question is water temp is probably in the 40's if not lower, and was wondering if I need to take any special precautiouns for running in much colder water than my boat is use to?

From my point of view (I get your weather about 5 hours later), nothing should change. Your motor should run cooler (From the air and also if you have water cooling).

Expect your batteries to have a little less punch and a little less runtime. For the same reason, your servo(s) may respond a smidge slower...so keep that in mind.

Other than that, watch out for icebergs! I will be out on Sunday for my first (After several upgrades) run!

:D
I would say no . electric motors like to run better when its cool but batteries however lose there punch in cool weather .

A graupner cat with a 700. I live about 15 miles southwest of you in Cville! Just running in ponds around my subdivision. There is also a dedicated boat pond on Rt. 83 and North Ave in Elmhurst. Only go there in the summer though.
