RE: GPS question

I own the Garmin Geko and am very pleased with it. It holds max speed but not altitude. It would be very interesting to see an altitude reading. The fastest speed it has clocked so far was from a flying wing @ 137km/h.

Thats the version I have. Apparently the newer 301 is better. May have altitude features, check it out

I have the Garmin Foretrex, it does top speed but not sure about the altitude. But it is smaller and lighter than the gecko. Less weight will slow your boat down less.

RE: GPS question

Hey i looked up bike computers and found all the ones i looked at had to recieve info from a frame mounted sensor that counts a magnets passing by that's attached to the wheel.the only difference i could tell in the cheap and expensive one's was the use of wireless sensors. These i'm afraid won't help us boat and airplane nut's , but thanks for the info anyways.

RE: GPS question

Ya most bike spedo's won't even work for rc cars since they need at least a 10 inch tire. For boats it is impossible to use a magnet/transistor setup.

RE: GPS question

I also have the Etrex and the Foretrex, the Foretrex is a little more $$ around $109 but its WAY smaller and MUCH lighter. On boats 30" and less this will make a big difference in your speed reading.
