ESC Hammer/ Engine

Just came back from running my Hammer in the lake on my new 7 cell battery that i read on here that will make this boat run quicker and come to find out after my 2nd run my boat stalls in the middle of the lake. Only works in reverse. had to cast my fishing pole to retrieve her. I am beyond pissed off right now. I opened the box and one of the electronics was smoking hot. What do i do?

RE: Hammer problem

We ran last night and nearly the same thing happened to my friends hammer.
it was running on 7 cells and it just stopped in the middle of the pond. This hammer did flip earlier in the evening and took on some water in the radio box so this may have been the cause of the problem.
If I were you I would call great planes customer service because the specs on the Hammer do say that it can run a 7 cell pack.

Hmm. My box was 100% dry. Never been flipped or took in water. I am going to call them tomorrow and see what they can do. I called them two days ago because one of my trim tabs was mis-aligned and i was on the phone with them for atleast 30 min until everything was done[>:]

They also told me that greasing my prop shaft would be a modification and would void warranty:eek:

RE: Hammer problem

Greasing your prop shaft I believe is explained in the manual as regular maintenence. you have to do that with every boat I've ever owned. I cant believe that they told you that, thats rediculous.

the trim tab thing was the same way on my friends hammer. we ovaled the holes on the tab so we could adjust it correctly.

I just noticed somthing fishy. The guy didnt ask for my address, only my name and zip code. Maybe he had my address intheir computer? Well anyway i called back just to make sure and the guy i spoke to said that they need my reciete to ship me out a new ESC...well i lost my reciete so that doesnt do me any good. Could anyone email me a scan of their reciete or fax. Please let me know all i need to do is show them it. That would be awesome! Please let me know..

The place where you bought the boat should be able to provide you with a receipt if they remember you.

Perhaps its a perfect opportunity for an upgrade off the bat. You can get a PROboat ESC ($40) and run up to 10 cells. Ofcourse anything above 7 cells would require a motor swap.

Where can i get this ESC?

RE: Hammer problem

They're pretty common... Try Horizonhobby.com or Offshoreelectrics.com both have them

the blue proboat esc is you best bet. i run that esc in mine, and a traxxas titan marine motor,an 8-cell 2400SCR nicad pack, and an octura X431 and my hammer will easily keep up with my buddys nitro hammer, and runs 15-20 minutes on a charge.

RE: Hammer problem

Thanks for all the reccomendations. I just ordered one with two day shipping. My next question, is it all plug in or does it require other mods? Also, what is the biggest motor i can put? How many turns?

RE: ESC Hammer/ Engine

What do you guys think about this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Venom-Fireball-M...QQcmdZViewItem

Is it faster than my stock 550 motor? Also, how many turn limit can my proboat ESC handle? Also, what is better say a 15 turn motor or 21 turn motor, what is the difference in speed?

RE: ESC Hammer/ Engine

There's no way of telling what speed a particular motor can make just by knowing the number of turns is has. In fact, the number of turns in a motor tells you absolutely nothing that will ever do you any good. Doesn't say anything about the motor's maximum current draw so you really can't tell if a particular ESC is going to work with it. Really a very dumb way of describing a motor.
Motors with fewer turns tend to spin faster than motors with lots of turns. Does a motor capable of very high RPM under no load mean that it's gonna make for a fast boat? Nope. That's because it doesn't tell you what RPM the thing is capable of when it is loaded down with a prop. (It'll be considerably less than it's no-load RPM - lol !)
The number of turns in a motor is a very poor way of comparing motors. But it's a very good way of selling them!

RE: ESC Hammer/ Engine

Finally a reply..Thanks!
What motor do you think is a good match for the proboat ESC and a 7 cell battery to make my Hammer somewhat faster than stock?

RE: ESC Hammer/ Engine

What do you guys think about a TRINITY P2K2 PRO 27 TURN MOTOR? Is it quicker than the 550 stock motor, and can my proboat ESC handle it with 7 cells? Thanks.
Any other setups??
