Rescue Boat project

I have two 380 motors with a weird speed controller( It will only let me turn by using one motor and turning the other one off, I think its called vector steering,)and radio gear. I am planning to use this stuff in a rescue boat

Basically everything needed to run but I have no Ideas on what the design for the hull & frame should be and what material should be used. I am on a budget and would really like to not spend more than $50
I am planning to use this rescuse boat on is a 40" long 9" wide Shockwave 36, But I would probably make it big enough to pull up to a 60" long catameran just in case I decide to buy one.

for the boat below, all you need is sheet insulation foam, fiberglass and resin, and pvc pipes. it's basically two foam boxes that are glass and connected to each other with pipe. you could leave the pipe detactable so incase you get a wider boat you can ajust the width of the rescue boat for the rescued boat.

I have the insulating foam, but how do you get fiberglass to bend in that shape, I have very little resources and am still a begenner in boating, so I dont have too much knowledge in this feild.

read this, applys to pretty much any surface being glassed.

That page you just listed......uhhhhhhhh............................. .

Maybe it would be easier to wrap it in that plastic POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS tape and just cover it in that waterproofing laquer

RE: Rescue Boat project

its not that hard to glass, just build your boxes, put a layer of resin, a layer of cloth, resin, cloth, resin.....then sand and paint. i may have a video of a boat being glassed, let me see.

edit: ok, dont have a video, but heres some links that may be alittle easier to understand.

RE: Rescue Boat project

not to say that fiberglassing is a bad idea but, would just covering it in plastic wrap and then painting on some waterproof laquer work??

I am payin gback a loan from my parents and am not allowed to buy too much stuff untill it is payed back(in on year) plus I already have all that stuff at home and could build it today, only I am in the middle of a hurricane and its night where i am (Florida, hurricane ernesto) and I kind of want to wait until morning so I can see what I doing.

anyway, its not a top quality project. its more of a finding stuff around the house and using it project.

plus, when you say you can fiberglass the foam box, you mean you can put the resign and fiberglass on the foam or do you have put some type of material between it, wont the foam soak up the resign??

oh yea, forgot about the hurricane, we were so worried it was coming this way. anyways, it's your boat, build it with whatever you got, but fiberglassing is the way id go.

Thanks for the info, I might try my idea on a small peice of foam to see if it will work, if it does, I will try to make it look like the picture.

If it doesent then I will just try fiberglassing.

Cant really get the materials I need to glass, but lucky for me my dad is a wood worker and offered to make the pontoons if i design them and give him the specs. The materials that are going to be used will be some balsa and epoxy. My design will be similar to the pic further up this thread, only I will need to make some stands on the back because Im using airplane props.

But I might try tuse a bogey board too. if i do i will probably cut out 25'' from the front except on the sides, I will keep around 5" on each side, so from an over head view it will look like a U with a thicker bottom.

Any opinions on my ideas, I will probably need new motors for the bogey board though. its pretty big, maybe one 700 motor with a 14x6 or bigger(depending on the torque of the motor)

Hey chinaman, where did you get that pic. I interested in that design. Any more info on it. Was thinking that would be a great project for the Villain hardware I'm removing.

Well ive finally made a WORKING RESUCE BOAT:D:D:D:D, well almost working. At first it worked well, it goes about 3-4 mph which is good considering the fact that the motors for it are way underpowered. I made something that looks like a 1/8 scale hydroplane with long floats on the front. about the not working statement i made before, well for some strange reason my right engine stopped working. I cant be the esc cuz it is just a on/off one and i can hear it clicking like it is supposed to. either the motor is fried or the wiring is bad. Anyway, i dont know how to post pics, but theres not much to show. Its just a cut up bogey board with two motors.

That wont work in my lake. There is always so much stuff piling up on my side of the lake i need to borrow my friends paddle boat just to get out far enough to launch the boat, but he lives 1 hour away from me. not to mention that i live in florida, and there are gators and water mocasins(venomus) that live in my lake.
